- Receives and initiates new employee injury and Workers’ Compensation claims in compliance with Missouri statutory law.
- Conducts initial investigations to review reported facts and determine the medical mechanism of injury.
- Ensures timely state-mandated reporting, compliance with treatment directives, and coordination with the third-party administrator for medical referrals.
- Communicates and ensures compliance with applicable City Ordinance requirements with employees, supervisors, and the Workers’ Compensation adjuster.
- Conducts detailed follow-up by reviewing medical records, collaborating with the adjuster on treatment directives, interpreting work restrictions, and matching employees to appropriate transitional duty assignments.
- Collaborates with outside legal counsel on attorney-represented Workers’ Compensation files by providing documentation and assisting in preparation for mediation.
- Reviews final disability ratings issued by treating physicians and works with the adjuster and legal counsel to develop settlement authority recommendations for the Risk Manager.
- Creates and maintains accurate, confidential documentation and case notes.
- Assists with preparing, compiling and distributing reports.
- Compiles and maintains legal hold documentation for litigated files.
- Serves as primary backup to the Claims Specialist.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor work unit or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in Risk Management, Business or related field.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in worker’s compensation claims.
