STARTING SALARY RANGE: $24.67 - $27.91 hourly. Top of pay scale is $33.22.

Job Summary:
Performs work involving operating complex construction, grounds maintenance, and right-of-way equipment. Operates backhoe for water line repairs and helps in the ditch in making these repairs. Repairs and maintains roads, fields, and rights-of-way; lays out and maintains graves; performs cemetery and grounds maintenance; performs traffic control duties; performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Requires overtime. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
Operates complex construction equipment in the maintenance of the water distribution system. Operates backhoe, tandem axel dump truck, vactor machine, tapping machines and other equipment used for water distribution maintenance. Labors in the ditch in making these repairs as well as minor maintenance on the equipment.
Operation and maintenance of fire hydrants.
Operates complex construction and maintenance equipment such as tandem axle dump trucks, tractor trailers, sand or gravel hoppers, front end loaders, steel wheel rollers, skid steers, and backhoes in order to transport material and perform maintenance activities.
Operates pothole patching vehicle insert. Supervises operations of pothole patching crew members.
Operates lawn tractors and other right-of-way maintenance equipment in order to mow and edge grass, trim trees and shrubbery, chip wood, and plant seed and fertilizer.
Lays out graves, including digging, removing soil, lowering coffin, filling in, and dressing with artificial turf; sets foundations and pours cement; sets corner posts and markers; responds to complaints of sunken graves, posts, markers, etc.
Performs other general grounds maintenance duties such as preparing beds, planting flowers, removing dead flowers and shrubbery, and emptying trash barrels.
Performs road, field, and right-of-way repair and maintenance activities such as shoveling, raking, hauling, mixing, digging, and picking up materials, debris, and dirt.
Assists with traffic control at road construction sites by directing traffic and assisting other equipment operators in maneuvering equipment.
Operates trucks and equipment for winter snow removal and other seasonal clean-up operations on an emergency and seasonal basis.
Performs minor routine maintenance on equipment such as checking oil and fluid levels, checking tire pressure, and checking belts.
Completes required forms and records associated with area of assignment.
Overtime is required of all positions within this class specification.
Provides work guidance to co-workers as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Performing simple routine maintenance on equipment.
Performing repair and maintenance on right-of-way.
Performing and repair of water distribution system appurtances.

Perform duties while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.

Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; exert 20 to 50 pounds of force.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include: distance vision, ability to discriminate between colors, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
