Starting Salary:
Heavy Equipment Technician I: $21.10 - 32.70 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Heavy Equipment Technician II: $22.62 - 35.07 per hour, depending on qualifications.
PLUS $.50 per hour for each ASE certificate (up to six).
PLUS $.30 per hour tool allowance. If hired after 9/28/2025 will only receive $1200.00 in an annual tool allowance.
PLUS $1.25 per hour when working the second shift (1:00 PM to 9:30 PM).
FIRST SHIFT: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
SECOND SHIFT: 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems; inspecting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, and performing preventative maintenance on City automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, street sweepers, fire trucks and equipment, police cars and/or motorcycles and small engines. This position assigns, oversees work and trains lower lever mechanics as needed. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
Minimum Qualifications:
: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years’ experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, or accreditation from a vocational institute; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess two (2) ASE T-series certifications, or one (1) ASE T-series passing exam score and one (1) EVT passing exam score; or pass (1) internally administered practical exam in related field within 6 months of employment. May be required to obtain a valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes at the discretion of the department.

Must possess least two (2) ASE T-series certifications and two (2) EVT certifications in a related field, or any combination of four (4) ASE T-series and/or EVT certifications in a related field. May be required to obtain valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes at the discretion of the department.
