ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. It is a city department of over 500 employees across four main Divisions: Management Services, Planning, Historic Preservation, and Development.
The Planning and Development Department has a Civil Engineer II (CEII) vacancy in the Civil Review Section. The Civil Review Section is responsible for review and approval of technical construction documents as it relates to grading and drainage, offsite concrete, paving, storm drain, plats, water, and sewer plans. The Civil Review Section works closely with design engineers, project developers, contractors, and citizens to work towards approval of plans, in accordance with applicable codes.
This Civil Engineer II will perform difficult, complex, and technical paraprofessional engineering duties, and advise firms engaged in various technical engineering reviews. Responsibilities include reviewing plans regarding grading and drainage, paving, storm drain, plats, water and sewer plans in accordance with City Code, Policy, and Public Standards. Other duties included but not limited are working a public counter, answering technical questions from internal and external customers, monitoring a shared email inbox and various other administrative duties. Work is performed under the supervision of a Civil Engineer III, Plan Review Coordinator, or another supervisor who reviews work based on inspections, codes and compliance.

SALARY
Pay Range: $82,056.00 to $121,243.20 annually.
Hiring Range: $82,056.00 to $99,736.00 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of experience in the practice of civil engineering work.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- Or two years of experience in civil engineering and a related engineering degree.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. - Plan Review experience, including reviewing civil, water/sewer, and/or utility plans.
- Policy Administration experience including enforcing codes and ordinances.
- Public counter or field inspection customer service experience.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction documents.
- Public Water/Sewer plan review experience.
- Electronic Plan Review experience.
- Plat review experience.
- GIS or mapping system experience.
- Land Development experience.
