The City of Renton's Public Works Maintenances Services department is recruiting to fill vacancies in Surface Water sections. The Maintenance Services Worker performs technical, and physically labor-intensive tasks in support of the Public Works Maintenance division. Work is performed independently and as part of a team. Tasks are completed with general guidelines and require some independent judgment. Contribute to the City’s vision, mission, and goals in the performance of all job duties. This classification is part of a series and incumbents may also perform duties at the entry and/or intermediate level.

Maintenance Services Worker 2: $68,928 - $84,012

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform general grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging, weeding, planting, and pruning as well as applying specialized chemicals to control and eradicate weeds, insects and other pests.

- Operate, high-pressure jet truck, dump and service truck, CCTV van and equipment.
- Perform a variety of specialized duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of City streets, water distribution, surface water, and wastewater facilities and systems.

- Operate computers, GPS survey equipment, laser levels, and software programs associated in the recording and mapping of City facilities, components, and systems.
- Assist with trench excavation to proper survey grade and line, laying of pipe, rechanneling of ditches and other aspects of surface water and wastewater system activities as assigned.
- Estimate of materials needed for projects.

- Inspect manholes to monitor sewer flow; wash and clean storm drains, holding ponds, manholes and sewer lines to prevent flow stoppage and septic conditions; perform sewer line flushing and cleaning t; clean out catch basins.
- Assist in the installation, cleaning, maintenance and repair of storm and wastewater mains, catch basins and manholes; assist in the removal of old pipe and install new mains, services, catch basins and manholes.
- Enter and work in underground manholes, chambers, and vaults; assist in the inspection, maintenance and minor repair of wastewater and surface water lift stations, including lift station electrical equipment and pumps.
- Locate and raise manhole covers to provide access to system; replace manhole rings and lids; repair manhole bases and channels.
- Assist lift station technician with inspections, maintain and repair waste and storm water pump stations including hydraulics, electrical and electronics; adjust pump station flows as needed.
- Pump storm water material into tanker trucks; replace fluid into the sewage system and dispose of solid material.
- Operate Closed Circuit Television Inspection van and equipment for the internal inspection of sewer line; maintain a video library of the City’s sewage collection system.
- Assist lift station technician with maintenance and repair of pump stations including electrode maintenance, changing filters and wet well washing; maintain dry wells for pump operation and cleanliness.
- Assist lift station technicians with maintenance of pumps including lubricating, pulling pumps to remove blockages, replace seals and valves and inspect impellers; inspect wafer and solenoid valves and clean and replace O-rings; paint pump station as needed.
- Operate high-pressure vacuum and pump assemblies.
- Assist lift station technicians with maintenance of telemetry systems by monitoring signals sent from base to pump stations; replace modules and fuses as necessary.

Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
- Employees are offered a choice of medical/vision coverage through either Kaiser Permanente or the City's self-insured plan. Preferred Provider Option is available through the self-insured plan. - The dental insurance plan covers services such as regular checkups, x-rays, fillings and crowns. Orthodontia coverage is also provided.
- The City contributes 3% of the employee's base wage rate into a deferred compensation retirement plan.
- Employees may also set aside a percentage of their earnings on a tax-deferred basis.
- Employees are enrolled in either the State of Washington Department of Retirement Systems Plan (PERS) or the Public Safety Employees' Retirement System (PSERS).

- Both the employee and employer contribute to the plan.
The City contributes 1% of base pay into individual employee VEBA accounts, which can be used to pay out of pocket medical expenses.
- A group term life insurance policy is provided to each employee at a value equivalent to the annual salary, up to $50,000.
- Each eligible dependent is also provided with a $1,000 policy. There is no cost to the employee.
- Optional supplemental insurance is available for employees and their dependents at group rates.
- Many employees are provided with a long term disability policy up to the equivalent of 60% of their salary.
- The City offers employees the opportunity to open two separate tax-free accounts through salary reduction. One account is to pay for expenses not covered by health insurance and the other account is for child care costs.
- Employees accrue vacation beginning with the first day of employment as follows: 12 days per year (0-5 years); 18 days per year (6-10 years); 21 days per year (11-15 years); 24 days per year (16-20 years); and 27 days per year (21+ years).
- Employees may access their vacation immediately.
- Upon employment, the employee receives a sick leave bank of 24 hours, with an additional 24 hours awarded after three months.
- Thereafter, sick leave accrues at the rate of four hours each pay period.
- A confidential counseling assessment and referral service is available without cost to employees and family members for help with personal, family or job-related problems.
- The City of Renton pays employees on the tenth and the twenty-fifth of each month (24 pay periods each year).
- The City recognizes eleven holidays and offers two "personal" holidays each calendar year for most employees, unless otherwise specified in a labor contract.
