JOB INFORMATION
Literacy Tutor/Learner Coordinator positions conduct data collection and assessment to achieve measurable outcomes; coordinate the matching of learners with volunteer tutors; monitor tutor/learner progress; supervise and evaluate volunteers; maintain the homework center's physical space, print and digital materials, technology, and supplies; maintain referral sources and other data to comply with reporting standards of program stakeholders; understand, respect, and work with diverse populations; promote the program to community agencies, human services programs, local businesses and schools; and perform other duties as assigned.
Positions with Do Your Homework @ the Library program facilitate the daily operations of one or more homework centers in the San Diego Public Library system, assist with planning and implementing program goals, develop out-of-school programs, and work with students from grades K through 8.
Positions with READ/San Diego will work with adults in an Adult Literacy Program.

Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- 3.5% effective 7/1/27
- 2% effective 7/1/28
- 2% effective 1/1/29
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- The list established for these positions may be used to fill full-time, half-time and/or limited-hourly vacancies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).
NOTE:
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
EXPERIENCE: One year of full-time professional experience working in an education or literacy program.
NOTES:
- A Master's Degree in Education, Teaching, or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
