Senior Park Maintenance Technician: 107
Principal Par Maintenance Technician: 109
Hourly Salary Range
Park Maintenance Technician: $22.06 - $32.54
Senior Park Maintenance Technician: $24.32 - $35.86
Principal Park Maintenance Technician: $26.82 - $39.56
The successful candidate’s placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role.
This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position performs routine maintenance and landscaping of city park grounds, sports fields, turf, xeriscape, desert preserves, cemeteries, courts, and other areas as assigned.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Waters, mows, weeds, trims/prunes, aerates, plants and fertilize landscaped areas.
- Maintains irrigation systems in assigned areas.
- Maintains Park equipment and amenities.
- Clears walkways, fields, courts and other areas of any debris. Empty trash receptacles.
- Performs general maintenance duties of assigned area.
- Operates and maintains tools and equipment.
- Responds to general questions from the public. May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Park Maintenance Technician:
One (1) year of experience in landscaping, park maintenance, or related experience.
Senior Park Maintenance Technician:
Two (2) years of experience in landscaping, park maintenance, or related experience.
Principal Park Maintenance Technician:
Three (3) years of experience in park maintenance or related experience.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
All levels:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal one-year increments for high school education.
Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:
All levels:
Valid driver’s license
Park Maintenance Technician:
One (1) certification/license designated for the position assignment (see below); obtain within one (1) year of hire.
Senior Park Maintenance Technician:
Two (2) certifications/licenses designated for the position assignment (see below).
Principal Park Maintenance Technician:
Three (3) certifications/licenses designated for the position assignment (see below).
North Parks and Rio Salado/TCA certifications/licenses in Arizona, or reciprocity; contingent upon the needs of the city:
Commercial Driver License
Horticulture Technician – National Association of Landscape Professionals
Master Gardener – University of Arizona Cooperative Extension
Sustainable Landscape Management – Arizona Landscape Contractors Association (ALCA)
Irrigation Technician – Arizona Landscape Contractors Association (ALCA)
Parks and Recreation Professional – National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Pesticide Applicator Turf & Ornamental and Right-of-Way & Weed – Arizona Department of Agriculture
