Job Description
Position Summary:
The Blood Bank Veterinary Technician supports the daily operations of the Blood Bank through donor scheduling, client communication, inventory management, record maintenance, and operational coordination. This position helps ensure the availability of blood products by supporting donor recruitment and retention efforts, maintaining accurate records, assisting with blood bank workflows, and providing administrative support. The role works collaboratively with faculty, veterinary technicians, and hospital staff to promote efficient operations and high-quality patient care.

Essential Job Duties:
Coordinate blood donor appointments, client communication, and donor follow-up activities to support donor recruitment, retention, and program operations.
Perform patient handling, restraint, donor preparation, and blood collection procedures in accordance with established protocols and under appropriate supervision.
Assist with blood product processing, labeling, storage, inventory management, and quality control activities to maintain a safe and reliable blood supply.
Maintain accurate medical records, donor databases, and operational documentation while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Support daily Blood Bank operations through equipment maintenance, supply management, workflow coordination, and collaboration with hospital services.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet service, hospital, and patient care needs.
Supervision:
No formal supervisory duties
Conditions of Employment:
Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)
Essential Services Designation: Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare
Minimum Education:
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program or equivalent education and training required for veterinary technician credentialing in Colorado.
Minimum Experience:
Registered as a Veterinary Technician (RVT) through the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) by the time of hire.
Credentialed in the State of Colorado or other eligible state determined by CACVT.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year of experience in a veterinary clinical, specialty, emergency, teaching hospital, or blood bank setting.
Experience with blood collection, blood product handling, laboratory sample processing, or donor program activities.
Experience with inventory management, scheduling, medical records, or client communication.
Experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
Familiarity with veterinary hospital software and electronic medical record systems.
Experience training or mentoring students, volunteers, or new staff.
