Chief Building Engineer Overview
This position is currently open and hiring! It is strongly preferred that the applicant be willing to live onsite.
The Chief Engineer will monitor, direct/train maintenance staff, clean and maintain the building, common areas, recreational facilities and grounds as assigned. To direct and train those who report to them. They will direct the repair of condominium units, and perform repairs as needed.
There will be a mandatory computer skills and maintenance competency exam that must be taken at the corporate office before the candidate is considered for a position at an Association.
REPORTS TO: Community Association Manager
EXPERIENCE NEEDED: Several years janitorial and maintenance experience in residential housing complex, office building or health care facility.
PERFORMANCE SKILLS:
- Knowledge of building cleaning, boiler operations, and closed loop chemicals.
- Knowledge of building and unit plumbing repairs and normal drain cleaning procedures.
- Ability to move a fully loaded one-yard trash container (estimated weight 600 lbs).
- Ability to work with arms overhead, at floor level, able to lift at least 100 pounds and climb ladders.
- Knowledge of electrical repairs to condominium units and common areas.
- Knowledge of lock repair and replacement.
- Ability to read, write, speak & understand English language.
- Understand maintenance of building equipment or systems standard to the property.
- Provide hand tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Understanding of computerized building control systems.
- Familiar with common computer programs such as Word, Excel and Access.
- Able to create and maintain computer maintenance logs and equipment data base information.
- Obtain the Fire Safety Director certification from the City of Chicago.
- Obtain any require city or state certification necessary for maintenance of the property.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Employment requires a pre-employment background check. Employment also requires a pre-employment drug screening test.
UNION AFFILIATION: Full time employees must be or become or members of Local #l after the 31st day of employment.
BENEFITS: Health care and pension benefits are funded by the employer and offered through SEIU Local 1, in accordance with the ABOMA/SEIU Local 1 contract. Employees should contact SEIU Local 1 for details on benefits and the date that benefits are available.
TRAINING: Previous experience and training is required. All Engineer candidates must already completed the training for Class C through SEIU Local 1, and obtained the Building Repairer’s Journeyman’s Card. Continuing education is required through SEIU Local 1.

Base Pay: $36.42 - $37.42 per hour
