JOB TITLE: Teacher - Army Instructor (AI) – JROTC HOUR STATUS: Exempt/187 Days
REPORTS TO: Principal & Senior Army Instructor PAY GRADE: Teacher
DEPT./SCHOOL: Assigned Campus DATE REVISED: 07/2026
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To facilitate Army instructions as an Army Instructor in supporting the mission of motivating young people to be better citizens, teach and provide leadership opportunities, facilitate community service, and academic excellence, facilitate successful completion of high school, to develop the necessary skills to graduate college or a service academy, serve in the military or successfully enter the workforce.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Associate's degree required
Be certified as a JROTC instructor through U.S. Army Cadet Command
Possess the qualifications prescribed in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be proactive, task oriented and motivated to serve school and community
Must desire and appreciate the opportunity to work with young people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Must be willing to complete professional development training as required by Army Cadet Command
Computer literate
Experience:
Retired Army Non-Commissioned (between Staff Sergeant E6 – Sergeant Major E9) or Warrant Officer (W1 – W5)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
1. Facilitate the JROTC program effectively according to law, regulations, polices, and procedures
2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
3. Implement lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences
4. Modify and improve given instruction by remaining continuously alert to new and alternative instructional methods and motivational techniques
5. Comply with Army and school district safety guidelines in all instances when instructing, supervising, monitoring, accompanying or escorting cadets
6. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
7. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
Student Growth and Development
8. Insure training/coaching of all JROTC teams as an extracurricular activity
9. Assume responsibility for JROTC extracurricular activities
10. Actively participates in JROTC camps, competitions, and community events.
11. Be a positive role model for students and support mission and values of school district and the Army
Classroom Management and Organization
12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
13. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
15. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
16. Ensure the appropriate use of supplies, uniforms, and equipment and facilities in accordance with Army and district requirements
17. Maintain arms and supply facilities in strict compliance with the Army security regulations
Communication
18. Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members
19. Actively recruit students to enroll in JROTC programs and maintain or exceed cadet enrollment requirements
Professional Growth and Development
20. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills as required
21. Maintain military proficiency on topics taught in the Army JROTC curriculum
22. Comply with state and district regulations and policies for classroom teachers, including the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
23. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside from school, home, or location other than school building, may work outside; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors. Regular community and occasional statewide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
