Copperweld is seeking a Project Integration Technician responsible for coordinating and executing the technical implementation of capital projects, equipment installations, facility improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position serves as the primary technical resource responsible for transitioning new equipment, systems, and processes from installation through successful operational startup.
Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, vendors, and contractors, the Project Integration Technician ensures projects are installed safely, completed on schedule, commissioned properly, and successfully integrated into daily operations. This role enables the Maintenance team to remain focused on equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, production support, facilities, and safety while providing dedicated project execution expertise.
WHAT we need you to do.
- Lead the technical implementation of capital projects from equipment delivery through operational handoff.
- Coordinate equipment installations, relocations, commissioning, startup activities, and production integration.
- Execute equipment upgrades, retrofits, automation improvements, and process improvement initiatives.
- Support facility and infrastructure projects, including building modifications, utilities, plant layout changes, and production area improvements.
- Coordinate project schedules and activities with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
- Manage contractor activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- Verify equipment installation meets design specifications, operational requirements, and safety standards prior to production release.
- Perform equipment testing, validation, troubleshooting, and commissioning to achieve successful startup.
- Identify and resolve technical issues that could impact project timelines or equipment performance.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, layout drawings, P&IDs, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Support training of Maintenance and Operations personnel on new equipment and processes prior to production handoff.
- Recommend improvements that enhance equipment reliability, productivity, safety, quality, and maintainability.
- Monitor project progress and communicate status, risks, and completion milestones to project stakeholders.
- Ensure all assigned projects comply with company safety policies, applicable regulations, and engineering standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT you need to possess.
- Industrial Maintenance Certification, Mechatronics, or a closely related maintenance discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment; seven (7) or more years preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning, startups, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Outstanding technical performer who consistently demonstrates initiative, accountability, and high-quality workmanship.
- Recognized as a trusted troubleshooter with the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), implement effective solutions, and share technical knowledge with others.
- In-depth knowledge of plant equipment, manufacturing processes, and production operations.
- Models a strong safety culture by consistently following safe work practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and performing all work with integrity and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document work accurately and effectively communicate information across all shifts and departments.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and provide on-the-job training (OJT) to maintenance personnel.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Ability to contribute to the development and continuous improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs while establishing and promoting maintenance best practices.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC-controlled, and automated manufacturing systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CMMS and ERP/MRP systems preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, and other industrial safety requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with assistance or lifting equipment for heavier items.
- Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment and machinery.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read equipment drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust.
