Job Summary
REGISTRAR OF VOTERS
Temporary Election Worker Specialist
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters is seeking bilingual workers for the upcoming November 3, 2026, Election. Chinese, Filipino, and Hmong Language Outreach Teams are seeking flexible people to work in a busy environment where the main goal is to make sure language is not a barrier to voting by providing translated election and education materials as well as services.
The ideal candidate for this position possesses academic knowledge of the target language. The candidate shall be able to translate election materials from English to the target language accurately and promptly. The candidate shall be able to proof materials in the target language. The candidate shall also be able to participate in outreach events.
During an election cycle there will be extensive overtime, often with little or no advanced warning. Time off during an election cycle is very limited.
Qualified employees may receive a bilingual premium, in addition to the base rate, based on the use of bilingual skills.
This recruitment is open continuously and can be closed at any time once the ideal candidates have been recruited. Please apply immediately.
Schedule:
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday- Friday
- May include weekends and extended hours
- Overtime is accumulated after 40 hours in a week
General Skills/ Abilities:
- Knowledge of target language and Culture (Chinese, Filipino, Hmong).
- Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing target language and English
- Strong translation and proofing experience from English to target language and from target language to English
- Ability to do on-line research for translations and proofing
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction on established policies and procedures
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Task Specific Skill/ Abilities:
- Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Internet, Outlook, and Zoom
- Ability to use copy machines, printers and fax
- Ability to format documents using software like Publisher, PDF, or In-design, a plus
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Translate documents from English to target language
- Proof documents in English and target language
- Set up and take down outreach booth in community events
- Assist in community outreach, education, presentations, workshops on voter and election related information
- Provide excellent customer service
- Assist with various clerical duties, as needed

Essential Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to perform repetitive movements
- Must be able to assist with carrying canopy, tables, chairs, and registration materials
Additional Requirements:
- Must wear employee badge and access card
- Must follow all health and safety protocols
- Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner
