About Crockett Facilities Services
For 25 years, CFSI has been the mechanical and facilities partner that Mid-Atlantic building owners and property managers trust to keep their commercial properties running. We're extending that same standard into plumbing — giving our existing HVAC and facilities clients one point of contact, one contract, and one team they already know. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build a new division inside an established, 25-year commercial services company.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Plumber installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs plumbing and gas-fitting systems in commercial and institutional buildings across CFSI's DMV service area — office buildings, mixed-use properties, healthcare and institutional facilities, and multi-family properties. This role works independently and as part of a crew, follows applicable plumbing and gas codes, and represents CFSI's reputation for reliability directly in front of the property managers and facility directors who are our customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair commercial plumbing systems — domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, backflow prevention, water heaters, boilers, and related fixtures and equipment.
- Install and service gas piping and fixtures in accordance with applicable code and jurisdictional licensing requirements.
- Perform drain and sewer cleaning, including camera inspection and diagnosis of underground and interior lines.
- Read and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications; prepare field sketches as needed.
- Respond to scheduled service calls, preventive maintenance visits, and emergency/after-hours callouts on commercial properties.
- Cut, thread, and assemble pipe and fittings; cut chases, channels, and holes in floors, walls, and masonry as required for installation.
- Document all work performed — parts used, time on site, and job status — through CFSI's work order and dispatch system.
- Coordinate with CFSI's HVAC and facilities technicians on multi-trade service calls and bundled service agreements.
- Maintain the company vehicle, issued tools, and equipment in safe, working condition; account for all company-issued tools per CBA tool policy.
- Follow all OSHA, jobsite safety, and CFSI safety program requirements at all times.
- Mentor apprentices and helpers assigned to a crew; model code-compliant, quality workmanship.
- Maintain professional, customer-facing conduct at all times — you are often the only CFSI representative the customer sees that day.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Current Journeyman Plumber license (or equivalent documented hours/classification) recognized in one or more of: Washington, DC; WSSC; State of Maryland; or Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidates holding licenses in multiple DMV jurisdictions are strongly preferred — there is no license reciprocity between MD, VA, and DC.
- Minimum 5,000 documented hours in the plumbing and gasfitting trade, or successful completion of a registered plumbing apprenticeship program.
- Working knowledge of the applicable plumbing and gas codes (IPC and local jurisdictional amendments).
- Experience in commercial or institutional plumbing preferred; residential-only experience will be considered with strong references.
- Member in good standing of UA Local 5, or willing and eligible to become one as a condition of continued employment.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely lift 50+ lbs., work from ladders, and work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, and crawlspaces.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a union position. Wages and fringe benefits are set under the UA Local 5 / Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington Collective Bargaining Agreement (effective August 1, 2025 – July 31, 2028):
- Building Trades Journeyman base wage: per UA Local 5 Collective Bargaining Agreement (current contract rate; increases scheduled each August through 2028).
- Overtime: time-and-one-half; double time, per CBA overtime rules.
- Full fringe benefit package paid on top of wages, including Medical Fund, Pension Fund, Retirement Savings Fund, Apprenticeship Fund, Industry Fund, Promotional Fund, and International Training Fund contributions.
- A Journeyman who does not hold and maintain a valid plumbing/gasfitting license in DC, WSSC, Maryland, or Virginia is paid $1.50/hour less than the licensed base rate, per the CBA.
- Company-issued tool set and toolbox, and a company vehicle or vehicle allowance for field assignments, per CBA tool and vehicle provisions.
- Paid holidays
Why CFSI
You'd be joining at the start of something, not just filling a slot. CFSI is a 25-year, $30M+ Mid-Atlantic facilities and mechanical company built on HVAC — we're now building plumbing as a full second trade, backed by an existing base of commercial property management clients who already trust our name. Early hires will help set the standard for how this division runs.
