Company Overview:
Culture Fresh Foods, Inc is a Dairy and Non-Dairy processing facility headquartered in Naugatuck, CT. The facility produces a wide range of dairy and plant-based spoonable and spreadable cultured and ESL (extended shelf life) products for private label, co-pack and under its own brand.
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician supports daily plant operations and facility maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance, safety, and efficiency. This hands-on role works closely with the production and maintenance teams to perform preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, and facility upgrades. The position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, supporting capital projects, and sustaining a 24/7 operation. The position is managed and directly reports to the Maintenance Manager of the Company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance on production and facility equipment.
· Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as fillers, mixers, conveyors, compressors, and pumps.
· Replace or repair control devices including sensors, switches, photo eyes, contractors, and motor starters.
· Support troubleshooting of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley preferred); programming knowledge is a plus.
· Set up and operates welders, grinders, drill presses, and hand tools; sanitary welding experience preferred.
· Fabricate and modify new or existing production equipment as needed.
· Coordinate service and maintenance work with production teams to minimize downtime.
· Support installations of new equipment and facility improvements.
· Participate in project-based work such as equipment rebuilds and refurbishments.
· Follow LOTO procedures and maintain proper safety protocols during all work.
· Maintain parts and supply inventory; anticipate needs and expedite orders.
· Ensure maintenance documentation is accurate and up to date.
· Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop at all times.
· Support successful completion of maintenance-related audits.
· Assist with vendor coordination for specialized repair or service work.
· Uphold Company safety, GMP, and sanitation standards in all maintenance activities.
· Remain available for 24-hour on-call support as part of a rotation.
· Perform any other tasks assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
SQF Requirements:
· Maintain good safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.
· Required to wear food safety, sanitation clothing, and PPE.
· This position necessitates conformance to personal hygiene regulations.
· Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
· Ensure all programs are being upheld and documentation is current.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. · High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
· Vocational/technical training or degree in mechanical, machining, or welding preferred.
· Prior military technical training with 2-3 years’ experience in maintenance preferred.
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in troubleshooting and maintaining processing and packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
· Basic electrical knowledge and the ability to read blueprints and schematics
· Availability to support a 24-hour on-call system and flexible scheduling.
· Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to multitask and prioritize.
· Familiarity with GMP, OSHA, and food safety standards.
· Experience with food-grade sanitary welding and fabrication.
· Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills are a plus.
· Must pass a company pre-employment background, physical, and drug screen prior to commencing work.
Physical Requirements
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and stretch and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 100 feet, or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Must have full range of body motion. Must have the ability to work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods and in confined spaces.
Working Environment
· While performing in this role the individual is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and /or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock.
· Exposure to cold storage, loud machinery, dust, and variable outdoor conditions.
· Employee may come in contact with cleaning chemicals and industrial equipment.
· Occasionally required to work in confined spaces in accordance with safety and regulatory protocols.
· The employee will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the Company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
· The employee must obey all safety rules.
