Position Overview
Join the Cumberland County Public Library team and play an important role in supporting the financial operations that help deliver exceptional library services to our community. As a Financial Associate, you will assist with the day-to-day management of the library's finances, purchasing activities, budget tracking, and financial recordkeeping while providing administrative support to the Administrative Office, including Human Resources. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where accuracy, organization, and customer service contribute to the success of library operations. Examples of Duties
- Assist with the daily financial operations of the library system, including cash handling, deposits, and financial recordkeeping
- Prepare daily cash, check, and credit card reports while ensuring accurate reconciliation and documentation of transactions
- Maintain cash inventories for change machines and safes at library locations and assist with quarterly cash audits
- Ensure adequate cash availability for public service areas, including maintaining change funds for library operations
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies, including duplicate charges and refund requests, in accordance with established procedures
- Compile, prepare, and distribute monthly and annual statistical, financial, and operational reports
- Assist with processing invoices and maintaining accurate financial records using the Munis Financial System
- Monitor expenditures by maintaining financial tracking spreadsheets to support budget management and ensure accurate allocation of funds
- Maintain organized financial files and documentation in accordance with County recordkeeping standards
- Provide administrative support by assisting with employee mileage reimbursements and other finance-related clerical functions
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and financial recordkeeping principles and practices
- Knowledge of modern office procedures, business correspondence, and applicable computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Skill in verbal and written communication, including preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other documents with professionalism and clarity
- Ability to understand, interpret, and carry out simple to complex oral and written instructions while exercising sound judgment and independent decision-making
- Ability to compile, analyze, and maintain statistical and financial data for reports, budgeting, and administrative purposes
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate information, and develop practical solutions while operating standard office equipment and technology
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, County officials, Finance staff, and members of the public through professional and respectful interactions
- Ability to supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate integrity, and uphold organizational values in all aspects of the position

In accordance with Session Law 2025-16, candidates selected for positions involving work with children in any capacity will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history check conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
