Position Summary:
This position is responsible for planning and implementing activity services, which involved defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the care team. The Activity/Recreational Therapist also provides continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Observes and applies sound judgement of patient need. Observes and documents changes in appearance, behavior and about to achieve care plan goals.
- Ensure timely documentation of interventions based on patient treatment plan. Apply appropriate crisis intervention techniques as required and assists patients in goal achievement.
- Complete all adjunctive therapy assessments in a timely manner.
- Maintains all safety precautions and all infection control procedures.
- Maintain therapeutic space, supplies and equipment to ensure cleanliness and safe storage.
- Provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to therapy, treatment interventions, and therapeutic objectives, as appropriate and necessary.
- Contribute to treatment plan with specific goals and interventions to be achieved in recreational therapeutic activities.
- Communicate with colleagues, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a clinical setting. This role routinely requires interaction with patients, documentation, and utilization of standard office equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken work during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Ability to express and exchange ideas via written assignments effectively and accurately. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discrimination's in sound. Performs repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; conditions are typical of office settings and administrative work. Must be able to address and prioritize multiple task demands within established time frames.
TRAVEL:
This position requires up to 15% travel.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in Occupational, Recreational, Art, Music, or Dance/Movement Therapy required.
- Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in occupational or recreational therapy. CTRS preferred.
- CPR certification, Basic Life Support, CPI required prior to patient interaction.
- One year of experience in psychiatric setting preferred.
