Shop Service Technician
Position Summary:
The Shop Service Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on both DEUTZ and non-DEUTZ products at the DEUTZ Power Center facility. This position works closely with customers, Parts Specialists, and the Service Supervisor to ensure high-quality service and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, customer-oriented, and adaptable. They possess strong troubleshooting abilities, excellent communication skills, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on DEUTZ and non-DEUTZ equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Assist in resolving customer concerns and service-related issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the Sales & Operations Manager to maintain a clean, organized, and professional facility appearance.
- Plan repair methods and establish efficient work sequences for assigned jobs.
- Pre-order all parts and materials necessary to complete assigned repairs.
- Complete repairs safely, efficiently, and according to company standards.
- Ensure all assigned repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Verify equipment functionality and cosmetic condition upon completion of repairs.
- Return all unused parts and materials in accordance with DEUTZ Power Center return guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Communicate with customers professionally, honestly, and respectfully at all times.
- Document identified failures and corresponding repair solutions.
- Complete work orders, service reports, and time sheets accurately and promptly.
- Consult with the DEUTZ Service Department as needed to ensure repair accuracy and authorization.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Assist with warranty claim processing and customer invoicing.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–4 years of diesel engine repair experience.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and portable diagnostic equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of DEUTZ diesel engines.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing natural gas (NG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) engines.
- Experience working with Tier 3 and Tier 4 emissions systems.
- Certification or formal training in heavy equipment and diesel engine repair.

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a shop environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and components as required.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and elevated noise levels.
- Ability to safely perform physical tasks associated with equipment maintenance and repair.
