The Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi is hiring a full-time Construction Manager for the Chancery. The Construction Manager will serve and assist the Chancery, parishes, missions, and schools (“Locations”) with construction, renovation, and replacement projects as well as advising the Locations regarding the proper methods of maintaining physical facilities. The Construction Manager will also serve as liaison between the Diocesan Bishop and Chancery staff and the Locations to ensure timely and accurate communication of pertinent issues. This position will interact with other departments including, but not limited to Fiscal, Risk Management, and Legal to assist the Locations relative to construction, renovation, and replacement projects.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Areas of Responsibility:

As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
Plan, coordinate, organize, monitor, and direct activities regarding the construction, renovation, and replacement of structures, facilities, and systems (“projects”)
Consult with Pastors and the Location committees from preliminary planning through final completion of projects while adhering to the Diocesan Building Committee Guidelines
Provide leadership in developing descriptions of jobs and materials necessary to complete projects
Manage project bid documents and the bid process
Schedule and coordinate projects in logical steps and budget the time necessary to meet each deadline
Prepare and submit budget estimates for each project; ensure adherence to the budget and, when necessary, make timely and necessary adjustments
Regularly communicate with supervisor concerning all projects, including the budget progress and costs
Create and maintain a daily activity report on all active projects
Maintain equipment asset database to update equipment when procured, replaced, or disposed
Collaborate with supervisor, Location management, councils, contractors, and design professionals
Manage actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at project sites
Develop and maintain good working relationships with Chancery leadership and staff, Location leadership, vendors, tradespersons, and craft workers, adhering to 24-hour response requirement for all verbal and written inquiries
Perform other duties as assigned
Mental and Physical Demands:
High frequency of local travel within the geographical area of the Diocese
Occasional out-of-area travel
Lifting of 15 pounds or more
Traverse all areas of jobsites in all types of weather
Regular walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
Exposure to common construction site dangers
Manage stressful situations and remain flexible with unexpected occurrences or delays
Organization Improvement and Morale:
Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of Diocesan staff
Maintains confidentiality in matters of the Diocese
Serves as a representative of the Diocese displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and community served

Positively contributes to the overall mission and values of the department to promote a positive organizational culture
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education preferred; relevant experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis
- Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings and renderings
- Knowledge of and experience with Diocesan policies and procedures is preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
- Valid Texas driver’s license required
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent technical computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with attention to customer service
- Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations
- Knowledge of accounting procedures for budget and project management
- Strong time management and organization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients
- Ability to remain flexible with unexpected occurrences or delays
- Ability to maintain composure under duress
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully complete criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to diocesan policies and procedures
