SUMMARY
The Driver is responsible for picking up and dropping off students along an established route in a small bus or vehicle that does not require a CDL license per the requirements of the State of Florida. Also includes field trips and athletic events. Drivers are responsible for the safe transportation, loading, and unloading of students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Follows a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off students.
- Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed.
- Performs pre- and post-inspections of vehicle/bus to ensure proper operating conditions; ensures adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards, and compliance with proper safety standards.
- Services buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil checks and when necessary, fills tires and batteries.
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure operating condition.
- Washes bus as needed.
- Maintains logs as required by supervisor.
- Obeys traffic laws and follows established traffic and transportation procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH
Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) or more years of licensed driving experience.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License (Class E) and a clean driving history.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Proven work experience as a School Bus Driver or similar role.
- Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations in the past 6 years.
- Ability to carry out assigned routes on time.
- Ability to operate a bus safely.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
- Excellent time management skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit for long periods of time, operate a vehicle, lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials of 20-50 pounds, exercise static strength, walk, bend, crouch, talk, feel, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and arms; exercise multi-limb coordination, spatial orientation, control precision, and response orientation.
- Prolonged periods of operating the vehicle/bus.
- Must be able to assist students when needed.
