How You’ll Make an Impact
Working closely with project managers, senior engineers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to infrastructure planning studies, hydraulic modeling, capacity assessments, utility system improvements, and engineering design. As you continue to build your technical expertise, you'll take increasing ownership of project components while delivering high-quality, sustainable engineering solutions that meet client needs, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Water Infrastructure Planning, Design, and Analysis
- Performs planning, analysis, and design of water distribution, wastewater collection, and recycled water infrastructure projects.
- Performs engineering calculations, hydraulic modeling, system analyses, and capacity assessments using industry-standard software and engineering methodologies.
- Prepares engineering plans, technical specifications, design reports, technical memoranda, feasibility studies, and master planning documents.
- Evaluates infrastructure alternatives and contributes recommendations based on operational, regulatory, and cost considerations.
- Assists with condition assessments, cost estimates, capital improvement planning, and infrastructure rehabilitation efforts.
Technical Documentation and Engineering Support- Prepares and refines technical reports, engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and supporting project documentation.
- Assists with the preparation of project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and technical proposals.
- Reviews engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
- Supports permitting activities and coordination with regulatory agencies, utility providers, and other stakeholders.
Project Coordination and Management- Takes ownership of assigned project tasks, phases, or technical workstreams while supporting overall project objectives.
- Coordinates with project managers, engineers, planners, environmental professionals, clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies to support successful project delivery.
- Assists in monitoring project schedules, budgets, and resource needs to help maintain project scope, quality, and deadlines.
- Identifies technical challenges and collaborates with project teams to develop practical engineering solutions.
Collaboration and Teamwork- Works closely with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful infrastructure projects.
- Communicates technical findings, design concepts, and project updates to internal teams and clients.
- Provides guidance and support to entry-level engineers and technical staff as appropriate.
- Participates in client meetings, workshops, and project coordination efforts.
Quality Control and Compliance- Performs quality assurance and quality control reviews of assigned engineering deliverables.
- Ensures engineering work complies with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Participates in project reviews and incorporates feedback to improve technical quality and project outcomes.
- Supports the implementation of engineering best practices and quality standards.
Learning and Professional Development- Continues developing technical expertise in water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure engineering.
- Maintains awareness of emerging technologies, regulatory developments, modeling tools, and industry best practices.
- Participates in technical training, professional organizations, conferences, and continuing education opportunities.
- Contributes ideas to improve engineering processes, project delivery, and technical efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, analysis, and design of water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure projects.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. Ability to obtain California Professional Engineer (PE) licensure within a reasonable timeframe preferred.
- Experience with water distribution, wastewater collection, recycled water, and utility infrastructure planning and design projects.
- Experience performing hydraulic modeling and system analyses using industry-standard software such as Innovyze InfoWater, InfoSewer, InfoSWMM, Aquanuity AquaTwin Sewer, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience preparing master plans, hydraulic modeling studies, feasibility studies, capacity analyses, condition assessments, alternatives evaluations, and cost estimates.
- Experience supporting project schedules, budgets, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
- Ability to perform field investigations, site assessments, and construction support activities as needed.
- Working knowledge of California water infrastructure regulations, design standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative project team.
Compensation: $90,000-$110,000 annually*
- Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.
Working Conditions
- This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires occasional project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
