Incentives and Stipends:
- $25,000 Fully Licensed Stipend: candidates who posses an active LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) License are eligible to receive a $25,000 stipend for the 2025-2026 school year. Availability of this stipend in subsequent years will be determined based on future grant funding.
- $10,000 Bilingual Stipend: Candidates who successfully complete the district's bilingual proficiency assessment in Spanish and agree to accept additional Spanish-speaking clients as assigned will receive a $10,00 stipend.
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The School-Based Therapist provides comprehensive, school-based mental health services to students in need of support within Eagle County School District.
The School-Based Therapist responds to referrals from school personnel, assesses level of need, and delivers appropriate interventions, including crisis response and safety planning when necessary. Responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments, developing treatment goals, and providing individual therapy, group therapy, and family support, as well as case management services. The therapist utilizes evidence-based practices to address a range of emotional, behavioral, and social needs. Therapists collaborate closely with school staff, families, and community partners to support student well-being and academic success.
In addition to direct clinical services, the therapist participates in school-based meetings as appropriate, contributes to multidisciplinary teams, and supports the implementation of school-wide mental health initiatives. The therapist must maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and adheres to all ethical, legal, and district standards.
All services are provided on school grounds at no cost to students or families, reducing barriers to care and ensuring timely access to mental health support.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
- Maintains consistent presence during assigned school hours to provide crisis response, individual and group therapy, classroom support, and participation in meetings.
- Assesses the nature and severity of student needs and determines appropriate level of care, including initiation of interventions and referrals.
- Provides crisis intervention services as needed, including suicide risk assessments, mental status exams, and evaluation of psychological and safety needs.
- Collaborates with school staff, families, and community partners to support coordinated, wraparound care.
- Consults and staffs cases with the School-Based Therapy Program (SBTP) Supervisor as appropriate.
- Obtains required consent and documentation and maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Coordinates with external agencies (e.g., EMS, child protective services, law enforcement, community providers) when necessary.
- Initiates and maintains communication with referring parties and outside providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Provides students and families with appropriate resources, referrals, and follow-up information to support ongoing care.
- Conducts follow-up sessions to monitor student progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Provides individual and group therapy services and maintains an organized, consistent schedule for students on campus.
- Maintains ongoing communication with school counselors and relevant staff regarding student risk levels, safety planning, and treatment coordination, within appropriate confidentiality guidelines.
- Participates as a member of both district and school-based crisis response teams.
- Attends required staff meetings and participates in regular supervision with the SBTP team.
- Completes accurate, timely clinical documentation in the designated medical records system, in compliance with agency, district, and regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures of both the SBTP and Eagle County Schools to ensure effective integration of services.
Knowledge & Skills to:
- Demonstrated knowledge of DSM-5-TR diagnoses, symptom presentation, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Strong understanding of local and agency resources to support referrals and coordination of wraparound services.
- Expertise in assessing suicidality, self-harm risk, and implementing appropriate crisis intervention strategies.
- Ability to build rapport and effectively engage with diverse student populations, including individuals from varied cultural, socioeconomic, and neurodiverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including electronic health records (EHR), and data management systems for accurate documentation and reporting.
Ability to:
- Establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without direct supervision
- Maintain boundaries with clients, practitioners and other agencies
- Maintain composure, professionalism, and structure in any given situation
- Uphold confidentiality at all times and adhere to the minimum necessary rule whenever data is shared
- Maintain communication with clinical and school based staff on a regular basis
- Identify, address, and resolve challenges in a timely and effective manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field
- Colorado state license preferred (or at minimum, desire to receive supervision so that license can be obtained within one year of hire date)
- Two years' experience working in school-based settings, outpatient clinics, or community mental health with training in crisis and trauma experience preferred.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
