Job Description
The Licensed Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health counseling and support services to residents within our specialized residential setting. This role involves conducting individual and group therapy, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with the I/DD, MI, TBI, and Autism populations within a residential setting and possess a thorough understanding of the requirements set forth by the local and federal insurance plans.
Role and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify resident needs, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based practices tailored to the unique needs of individuals with I/DD, AMI, TBI, and Autism.
- Offer crisis intervention and stabilization support as needed.
- Monitor resident progress, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and modify treatment plans accordingly.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including direct care staff, nurses, program managers, psychiatrists, and other specialists, to ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Serve as a resource for staff regarding behavioral support strategies and understanding the mental health needs of our resident population.
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards of practice of their respective licensure.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable MDHHS regulations, Medicare guidelines, and CMH policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the ongoing development of the facility's mental health services.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for residents.
- Provide psychoeducation to residents and staff, as needed.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of residents.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Current and unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist (LP), Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP), Limited Licensed Counselor (LLC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Michigan is required.
- Minimum of 3-7 years of experience providing counseling services to adults with I/DD, AMI, TBI, and ASD.
- Experience working within a residential setting, preferably an Adult Foster Care facility.
- Strong knowledge of person-centered planning principles and practices.
- Proficiency in conducting individual and group therapy.
- Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
Preferred Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Experience in developing and implementing behavior support plans.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
