Alternative High School Math Teacher
Description:
The Alternative High School Math Teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12. This Teacher is critical to the success of our Alternative School program for overaged, under-credited High School Students. The Teacher must work collaboratively with the EHS Math Department Head, the Assistant Principal, and other Alternative School faculty throughout the year to continually improve our students' experience and performance. The Teacher must be flexible and willing to accommodate students' scheduling needs within the Alternative School schedule. Teachers should be well-versed in the Massachusetts High School Math Standards, as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.
Teachers are expected to teach five classes and lead one advisory period each day.
Working Time: 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am-3 pm on Fridays
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Math and/or related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in Math for Grades 9-12
- SEI Endorsement
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in Science Grades 9-12
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
- Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
- Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in English and a second language.
- Strong growth mindset, flexibility, and collaborative skills.
Essential Duties:
- Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Math using district-provided high-quality curriculum materials.
- Monitor student progress and performance on online math and science coursework.
- Use all available district-provided technology curricula to create engaging math lessons that align with 21st-century skills and support remote accessibility.
- Manage classroom behavior using Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies to motivate students and minimize disruptions.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging, inclusion, self-confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.
- Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.
- Incorporate language activities aligning with WIDA Standards into instruction, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to meet the needs of multilingual learners.
- Use evidence-based, culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for grade-level learning.
- Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target students' academic and linguistic needs, including MCAS and ACCESS, and other literacy and math formative and summative assessments.
- Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
- Communicate with students’ families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that foster two-way communication.
- Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to the challenges of urban education to close opportunity gaps.
- Collaborate and co-plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide high-quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.
- Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students' social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by supervisor/assistant principal, including one-to-one and group check-ins with students, school events, daily student advisories, recognition ceremonies, and community-building activities.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. SY 26-27
Salary Range - $65,178 - $125,654
