Ferrum College, an NCAA Division II institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for a motivated,
energetic and passionate individual to be our next Head Men’s Soccer Coach. This is a full-time, 12-
month position that reports directly to the Director of Athletics.
Ferrum College is a member of Conference Carolinas. Review of applications will begin immediately.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The head men’s soccer coach will evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified
student-athletes that will compete at a high level in the classroom and on the field. The successful
candidate will oversee the organization of all team practices, games and budgets. This individual will put
together a comprehensive recruitment plan for the men’s soccer staff and will ensure a culture of
compliance within all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas and Ferrum College rules and
regulations, and ensure all coaches and student-athletes comply with same. Finally, the successful
candidate will serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes and prepare the team for a full
intercollegiate varsity soccer experience.
2. Oversee all aspects of men’s soccer program operations, including, but not limited to, the
development and management of all team practices, contests, recruitment, academic monitoring,
budgets and the supervision of all full-time, part-time, volunteer and student assistant coaching
staff.
3. Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan for the entire men’s soccer staff, ensuring
a robust and competitive roster from the local, regional and national landscape.
4. Ensure a culture of compliance around all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas and Ferrum
College rules and regulations and ensure all coaching staff members and student-athletes do the
same.
5. Travel locally, regionally and nationally for all regular-season and post-season events, conference
and/or national meetings and fundraising, alumni and community events.
6. Develop yearly, non-conference, game schedules to ensure high-level competition in preparation
for conference and NCAA competitions.
7. Oversee student-athlete academic progress, be available for consultation/support for student-
athletes and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic
success.
8. Select and purchase all equipment necessary to ensure a competitive men’s soccer program.
9. Work with Director of Athletics and head women’s soccer coach on the upkeep of Penn-Roediger
Field and all other relevant facilities utilized by the men’s soccer team.
10. Work closely with Sports Information Director to develop a media plan and be available for
interviews and speaking engagements to internal and external constituents.
11. Serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
12. Serve on department and campus-wide committees as requested, as well as other duties as
assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversight of full-time men’s soccer assistant coach and all
part-time, volunteer and student assistant coaches.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education/Experiences:
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years collegiate coaching experience is required. A master’s
degree and collegiate playing experience preferred.
Licenses:
Current and valid driver’s license required.
Other Preferences:
The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work occasionally on evenings
and weekends throughout the year to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field. The
successful candidate must be committed to working and teaching within an environment that embraces
the development of students around their education, cultural diversity, mental health awareness and
NCAA and Conference Carolinas compliance.
