JOB DESCRIPTION: The Elementary Special Educator is responsible for providing high-quality, specially designed instruction and comprehensive case management services to students with disabilities in grades K4. Working collaboratively with general educators, related service providers, families, and school administrators, the Elementary Special Educator develops and implements individualized educational programs (IEPs) that promote academic achievement, social-emotional growth, independence, and meaningful participation in the general education curriculum. Through evidence-based instructional practices, progress monitoring, and a commitment to inclusive education, the Elementary Special Educator ensures that each student has equitable access to learning opportunities while fostering a supportive, student-centered environment that celebrates individual strengths and promotes success for every learner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Rhode Island certification as a Special Educator.Appropriate Rhode Island certification for the assigned grade level(s), including kindergarten.Successful experience as an elementary special education teacher.Demonstrated experience working with students with diverse academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and behavioral supports.Experience providing specially designed instruction within inclusive general education settings.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with general educators, related service providers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.Evidence of building positive partnerships and maintaining effective communication with families.Knowledge of Rhode Island and federal special education eligibility criteria.Thorough understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), RI regulations, and the special education referral, evaluation, eligibility, and IEP processes.Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that are data-driven and aligned with student needs.Experience collecting, analyzing, and using student data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions.Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to achieve high levels of academic and social-emotional success.Strong behavior management skills in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to the diverse needs of students, families, staff, and administration.Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and cultural needs of all learners.Ability to develop and implement creative, flexible, and evidence-based instructional and behavioral supports that promote student growth and achievement.Skilled in collaborative problem-solving, conflict resolution, and building positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.Ability to work collaboratively as a member of multidisciplinary teams and contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture.Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and responsiveness in a fast-paced school environment.Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive, Gmail, and Calendar) and other educational technology platforms used to support instruction, collaboration, and communication.Ability to analyze student data and use progress-monitoring information to inform instructional planning and decision-making.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all students through culturally responsive and student-centered practices.Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional learning and reflective practice.
