Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Associate Residence Education Coordinator oversees all aspects of administration, programming, and supervision within the assigned residence hall(s), focusing on creating meaningful social, cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities that foster student engagement, belonging, and school spirit within the campus community.Job Description:
Student Support
Serves as an educator, counselor, consultant, and problem-solving resource for residents.
Promotes student success by advocating for individual and community development beyond the classroom.
Provides direct support and referrals to appropriate campus resources to ensure students’ well-being and success.
Mediates interpersonal conflicts and fosters healthy communication and relationships among residents.
Clarifies and upholds University policies, including the Code of Conduct.
Maintains strong communication with residents through one-to-one outreach, meetings, and community gatherings.
Collaborates with campus partners to promote student retention and success.
Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises student workers; and provides leadership and ongoing development throughout the year.
Residence Hall Operations and Administration
Maintains office hours and responds promptly to inquiries and correspondence.
Coordinates administrative procedures for effective opening, operation, and closing of residence halls.
Ensures compliance with Family Education Rights of Privacy Act (FERPA) and maintains confidential student and University records.
Oversees the front desk operations of assigned residence hall(s) and manages communication between residents and staff.
Acts as facility manager, ensuring maintenance and operation needs are addressed promptly and accurately.
Prepares and monitors reports, requests, and tickets related to maintenance, custodial services, key control, ID access, technology, laundry facilities, and facility improvements.
Collaborates with Facilities Management and Custodial Services to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of residential spaces.
Student Programs and Activities
Develops and supports programs that enhance student development, learning, and belonging in the residence halls.
Encourages student engagement through programming that reflects community interests and campus values.
Contributes to the creation of promotional and educational materials supporting residence life and housing initiatives.
Stays informed about emerging trends in higher education and in residence life and housing to enhance programming and student engagement.
Student Concern and Accountability
Conducts outreaches to students of concern related to their well-being and success.
Supports the Director of Residence Life and Housing and Commuter Programs with concerns and outreach initiatives with the Behavioral Intervention Team and the Academic Intervention Team.
Collaborates with Student Accountability and Restorative Practices to follow up with students of concern and conducts informal resolution conferences for students involved in potential policy violations.
Interprets and enforces University and Residence Life and Housing policies in a fair and educational manner.
Supports residents through mediation, crisis intervention, and restorative conversations using a culturally competent lens and student-centered approach.
Community Support and Crisis Response
Participates in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and summer.
Responds to and manages emergency situations; and provides short-term support and follow-up as needed.
Identifies students in distress and connects them with appropriate campus and community resources.
Represents Residence Life and Housing and the Division of Student Affairs on committees and initiatives that support student development and success.
Additional Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum of two years of experience with residence education, student services, or a related field (college student work and/or internship experience will be considered).
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Strong ability to interpret and apply University policies consistently and fairly.
Strong proficiency with StarRez, Maxient, Google, and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Strong knowledge of student development theory and its application to residential programs, particularly within Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and crisis management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively with minimal supervision.
Additional Position Details:
If the successful candidate has three years of professional experience and exceeds the qualifications, they may be hired as “Residence Education Coordinator” at the compensation grade of A2.
This is a live-in position in an unfurnished assigned apartment located within the residence hall(s) of responsibility.
The incumbent must be able to work in evenings and weekends as needed.
