The Hunt School of Nursing (HSON) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position as Chair of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a 9-month, tenure-track, campus-based faculty appointment with Chair responsibilities that extend through the summer months.
Responsibilities:
The Chair serves as the academic leader of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, reporting to the Director of the Hunt School of Nursing. The position provides supervision to the Coordinator of the Family Nurse Practitioner program and the Coordinator of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. The Chair will hold full faculty status within the Hunt School of Nursing and will be entitled to all associated rights and responsibilities. Responsibilities include providing leadership for program planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement; ensuring compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and university standards; overseeing curriculum development and revision; and supporting student recruitment, retention, progression, and success.
The Chair is responsible for teaching graduate nursing courses, mentoring and advising DNP students, and guiding scholarly projects and practica. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and administration to support strategic initiatives, identifying resource needs to promote program excellence, and ensuring effective communication and operations within the School and University. The successful candidate will also contribute service to the University, the Hunt School of Nursing, the nursing profession, and the broader community.
The Hunt School of Nursing is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and offers a range of programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Accelerated BSN (ABSN) pre-licensure programs, as well as an online RN-BSN completion program. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program offers concentrations in Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, and a dual Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration (MSN/MBA). The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program includes concentrations in Post-Masters, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Required Credentials:
- Doctoral degree
- National certification as a nurse practitioner
Required Qualifications:
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, a compact state, or be eligible for licensure in North Carolina.
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina, a compact state, or be eligible for licensure in North Carolina.
- Minimum of two years employment in direct client care as a Registered Nurse.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Administrative or teaching experience at the graduate level
- Experience in the program accreditation process
- Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Applicants without this preparation may complete the required coursework within 3 years from the time of employment.
