Your role at GEI.
GEI is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a talented, highly motivated geotechnical team supporting our St. Louis, MO office, and growing regional practice. The successful candidate will oversee geotechnical and construction oversight projects local to St. Louis, the South Region, and/or nationwide. The candidate will also provide technical guidance, client relations, subject matter expertise, and multidisciplinary oversight to proposal and project teams, train/mentor junior staff, and provide innovative problem-solving leadership. Our St. Louis and other South Region locations currently offer a variety of geotechnical and construction services projects which include geotechnical exploration, landslide assessment, slope stability analysis, geo-hazards assessments, building foundation design, retaining wall design, MSE wall design, ground improvement design, deep foundation design, support of excavation design, and construction quality assurance oversight/testing.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Support and grow the practice in the Greater St. Louis area and the Midwest by serving new and existing clients and markets while cross-selling GEI’s core business areas.
- Help coordinate business development activities within the practice by identifying key clients/business areas, growth strategy, and capture strategy.
- Support proposal efforts, maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in professional organizations, and make presentations at client and industry events.
- Design and construction projects will include foundations, tunnels, dams, excavation support systems, ground improvement, and environmental work.
- Exemplify commitment to technical excellence balanced with client-expectations and satisfaction, and profitable project management.
- Participate in recruiting efforts and the integration and training of new staff.
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor.
- Contribute to strategic planning at the office, regional, and national level.
- Provide technical leadership and senior level oversight and serve as Engineer of Record.
- Manage technical, financial, and client relationship aspects of projects.
- Develop a networking partnership with practitioners across the company.
- Participate on technical teams working across multiple offices throughout the country, problem-solving, preparing plans and specifications, and meeting with clients and subcontractors.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural or Geological Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
- Seller-Doer with strong client relationships, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a track record of generating new work and growing a business segment.
- Diverse technical background including a strong fundamental knowledge of the principles of geotechnical, structural and/or geostructural engineering.
- 12+ years of previous professional experience in geotechnical consulting.
- Knowledge of St. Louis marketplace is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills; clear and effective technical writing and presentation development; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, project teams, and clients; ability to successfully manage projects and lead technical work.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license.
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural or Geological Engineering.
- Ability to build client relationships and cross-sell services to existing clients.
- Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices and client sites as required.
