Assistant High School Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach
Girard College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant High School Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in teaching and training female student-athletes in the sport of volleyball. The Assistant Coach will also help foster a high-energy, positive team culture that reflects the mission and values of Girard College. Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of volleyball.
Position Information
Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time (Fall Season), Stipend Position
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience and according to the Girard College coaching stipend schedule.
Anticipated Start Date: August 3, 2026, for preseason practices.

Head Girls' Volleyball Coach
Responsibilities
The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the ongoing development and improvement of the volleyball program through planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. All coaches are expected to oversee the program in the best interest of Girard College by adhering to the policies and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A.), the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A.), the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (P.I.A.A.), and all Girard College policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Implement practice plans developed by the Head Coach.
- Motivate student-athletes while teaching and promoting sportsmanship.
- Effectively communicate team expectations and rules to players and their families.
- Consistently model outstanding sportsmanship and professionalism.
- Assist in recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to Girard College.
- Work collaboratively within an educational environment while maintaining positive relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, students, and fellow coaches.
- Sit or stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions when necessary.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Required Duties
- Assist the Head Coach in organizing practices and developing game strategies.
- Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and performance.
- Conduct skill-development drills emphasizing volleyball fundamentals.
- Assist with the development of individual players and the overall team.
- Maintain, clean, store, and inventory team equipment.
- Help ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices and competitions.
- Follow the Athletic Trainer's care plan for injured student-athletes.
- Distribute uniforms, equipment, and supplies before the season and collect all issued items at the conclusion of the season.
- Assist with transporting student-athletes to and from practices, contests, and team events as assigned.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and remain eligible to operate Girard College vehicles in accordance with Girard College policies.
- Complete any required driver authorization or vehicle safety training required by Girard College.
- Demonstrate appropriate conduct toward students, officials, opponents, and spectators at all times.
- Promote and maintain a non-discriminatory environment in all team and school activities.
- Attend meetings as requested by the Athletic Director.
- Support the Head Coach in promoting the academic, personal, and athletic development of student-athletes while modeling the mission and values of Girard College.
Hours
In-Season
- The volleyball season lasts approximately 8–10 weeks and may extend to 12 weeks if the team qualifies for postseason play. Coaches are expected to be available for approximately two hours per day, Monday through Friday, for practices, with Saturday availability as needed. Coaches are also required to attend all scheduled home and away contests.
Off-Season
- Coaches are expected to conduct off-season workouts with prior approval from the Athletic Director.
- Season Expectations
- Attend all preseason meetings and required coaches' meetings.
- Attend all scheduled practices, contests, tournaments, and post-season competitions.
- Participate in team functions, including awards ceremonies, banquets, and other program events.
- Assist with end-of-season responsibilities, including equipment inventory, collection of uniforms and equipment, facility cleanup, and program evaluation.
- Always Represent Girard College in a professional manner while supporting the mission and values of the institution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level.
- Completion of all PIAA coaching education requirements by the time of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff, and families.
Physical Requirements
This position requires standing and walking for extended periods, demonstrating volleyball skills, lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and supervising practices and competitions in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Required Certifications
- FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
