Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. Position Summary: This position serves as the lead educator in a classroom of children by planning, implementing, and overseeing all classroom activities. This position works with typically developing children as well as children with disabilities, serves as a social service referral person and shares in the responsibility of parent involvement in the program. This position may be reassigned to various classroom/centers as deemed necessary for program operations. As an instructional coach, this position will be working with teachers and administrators in the education industry to improve student achievement. This position is responsible for providing guidance and support, observing and providing feedback on teaching practices, and designing and delivering professional development opportunities. Instructional Coaches collaborate with educators to identify and address areas for growth, while also promoting best practices and staying current on research-based instructional strategies.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm
Salary Range: $78,500-$82,500
Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.
Role, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
- Responsible for the weekly preparation of daily lesson plans, which includes objectives to be posted for parents, volunteers and visitors in the classroom.
- Develops an individual plan for each child to include goal setting based on identified needs and prescriptions for objectives and activities to meet established goals and outcomes.
- Schedules and attends home visits and parent-teacher conferences with families as required and on an as-needed basis and documents these events.
- Prepares and maintains a safe, healthy learning environment for children that is positive, developmentally appropriate and experientially based. Provides sufficient and appropriate outdoor learning experiences for children. Supervises all classroom activities, field trips, and outdoor activities.
- Make necessary referrals for any special needs problems or issues to appropriate staff.
- Ensures lesson plans cover all Head Start Standard domains and are individualized.
- Implements education lesson plans and daily programs for children in accordance with each child’s needs based on classroom observation and recording children’s interests and levels of functioning.
- Supports children’s social and emotional development and provides positive guidance and discipline.
- Shares pertinent information with family advocates ensuring coordinated services.
- Supervises mealtime and eats nutritionally prepared meals with the children as a curriculum-based activity to model good nutrition and proper social skills.
- Provides a stable classroom routine and environment ensuring a well-run purposeful program responsive to children’s needs.
- Help teachers develop teaching strategies and techniques
- Observe teachers in the classroom and provide feedback
- Collaborate with teachers to develop lesson plans and curriculums
- Assist teachers in identifying and addressing areas for improvement
- Provide resources and support for teachers
- Coordinate professional development opportunities for teachers
- Analyze student data and provide recommendations for instructional improvement
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents
- Stay up to date on current educational research and best practices
- Encourage a culture of continuous learning and growth among teachers.
- Screens, observes, and documents children as required.
- Submits monthly progress reports to supervisor.
- Assists with collection and editing process of correct Child and Adult Care Food program (CACFP).
- Generates and tracks in-kind and other allowable costs applied to the non-federal share requirement and submits to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Must maintain accurate meal counts and attendance and submit in a timely manner
- Must maintain appearance of the classroom environment.
- Must follow the Health and Safety guidance
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Minimum of a master's degree in education required.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a classroom setting required.
- NYS Teacher Certification
- Must be DOI Fingerprinted/ PETS
- Must be able to pass the state background check
- Current CPR/First Aid Training a plus
- Current DOE & DOH mandated trainings a plus
