Job Description:
Goodwill Industries of the Columbia is seeking a full-time English/ Spanish Digital Literacy instructor. This position holds the critical role in bringing digital skills/literacy and tech navigation resources to people throughout this Goodwill’s region in Washington. Working with a Digital Literacy Program Coordinator, and other workforce development professionals in a team approach, each Instructor will provide individualized/In-class assistance both remotely and in-person to vulnerable individuals who lack digital literacy skills, access to computing devices, or the internet.
The Digital Literacy Instructor will perform an initial assessment to learn technology and connectivity needs and the current digital skills level of program participants to assist them with accessing computer hardware, the internet, and basic foundational digital literacy skills training. This access to technology includes but is not limited to the basics of computer usage, from turning on the computer to keyboarding skills, familiarity with software applications (especially focusing on the Microsoft Office Suite programs) and providing guidance on email and social media tools. The work is conducted in person at any of a variety of sites across the region, or through a remote interface (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.)
What will you do in this job?
- Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicating those objectives to students.
- Conduct classes/workshops at both the worksite and within the community to teach basic computer skills, essential software applications and "using technology in daily life" topics. Adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student's needs, and abilities.
- Provide one-on-one digital skills help to individuals in need of help navigating a device or software application.
- Use computers, Microsoft Office applications, AV, and other equipment/materials to effectively present and supplement digital literacy instruction.
- Stay abreast of current technology and trends as well as phishing schemes and internet scams and sharing this information with fellow instructors.
- Collect and document attendance and assessment data in accordance with established guidelines, and analyze trends to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and the overall success of classes.
- Conduct ongoing outreach to communities requiring digital literacy support, with a focus on immigrants and refugees, English language learners, senior citizens, individuals experiencing poverty (households at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Level), and those facing barriers to technology, internet access, and digital skills.
- Establish and nurture relationships with local community partners across the Goodwill Industries of the Columbia region to support the connection of remote and underserved communities.
- Promote Goodwill’s digital literacy classes at resource fairs and outreach events to support ongoing digital skills training.
- Safely operate motor vehicles for company business in accordance with all applicable laws, company policies, and insurance eligibility requirements.
- Adhere to the highest level of confidentiality, keeping private all client, associate, contract, human resource, and payroll information with acute attention to information that would diminish dignity/reputation of individuals and the Agency keeping immediate supervisor informed of any problems of unusual situations and/or actions.
- Utilize and promote safety principals that model risk reduction demonstrating safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture and reports hazards or accidents.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
- Adheres to Goodwill policy guidelines, ensuring compliance with standards related to attendance, dress code, and professional conduct.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting Rate: $23.00, with eligibility for annual performance-based increases. Maximum pay is $25.88, achievable through sustained good performance and years of service.

- Retirement Savings Plan: Eligible to participate in a 401(k) or Roth IRA upon turning 18, with enrollment eligibility after one year of service and 1,000 hours worked in the first year (or 500-1,000 hours each year for two consecutive years). Enrollment entry dates are January 1st or July 1st.
Work Schedule
Full-time, hourly position. Days and hours are dependent on business needs, but will occur primarily Monday through Friday, 8-4:30. Occasional weekend and evening events are scheduled with advance notice.

Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license for at least three (3) years, good driving record, ability to provide own transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance.
Have experience teaching and/or leading groups
Have excellent verbal and written skills in languages representative of the community being served; bilingual English/ Spanish required
Have intermediate level or better computer skills which include Excel, Outlook, Word, and internet use.

Have an associate degree or commensurate work experience
