SUMMARY
The Digital and Social Media Specialist provides direct support to the GTB Communications Program under the direction of the Director of Tribal Citizen Engagement. This position is responsible for creating, managing, and publishing online content for social media platforms to build brand awareness, engage audiences, and drive business goals, involving content creation, scheduling, community management, performance tracking, and staying current with digital trends. Along with distributing digital content across the GTB website and App to support internal and external communications for the Grand Traverse Band and its Membership. The Specialist ensures consistent, engaging, and timely digital communications while operating within the approved department budget.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's degree in Communications, Marketing, Multimedia, Graphic Design, or a related field or certification in one or more Adobe Creative Cloud programs.
- Recent professional experience in digital communications, social media, or related fields.
- Experience with website content management and social media platforms.
- Familiarity with photo, video, and audio recording equipment and editing software.
- Valid unrestricted driver's license and ability to be insured by the GTB insurance carrier.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, edit, and publish digital content including graphics, photography, video, and written materials for use across GTB websites, social media, newspaper, app content and other digital platforms.
- Manage and maintain GTB social media accounts, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with GTB branding and communication goals.
- Assist with the development and production of the monthly Tribal Newsletter, including photography, written content, layout, and digital distribution.
- Maintain and update the GTB website, including calendars, announcements, web ads, and member services content.
- Conduct and analyze periodic Membership surveys using web-based tools to improve outreach, engagement, and website usability.
- Oversee and support audio/visual recording and live or recorded broadcasting of Tribal Council meetings, including pre-production, production, and post-production.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors, securing bids as necessary for digital media, web, and communication-related projects.
- Provide training and support to staff or small groups on website content management, social media use, and recording equipment.
- Collaborate with the Grants Department on outreach and promotional efforts for programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate with the IT Department on digital projects including website functionality, sound systems, and related technology as needed.
- Stay current with trends, tools, and best practices in digital media and social networking platforms.
- Assist with occasional budget-related tasks such as purchase orders, print requisitions, and data entry.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Tribal Citizen Engagement.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Associate's Degree in Multimedia Production, Graphic Design, Marketing, Visual Communication, Digital Film/Video Production, or related field, or equivalent Adobe Creative Cloud certification.
- Demonstrated experience in digital communications or social media management.
- Proficiency in software including desktop publishing, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, photo and video editing.
- Experience using both Mac and Windows operating systems is preferred.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
- Experience using digital and 35mm camera equipment.
- Knowledge of printing and basic bindery equipment preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid unrestricted driver's license and insurability through GTB insurance.
- Willingness to attend training as recommended by the Director of Tribal Citizen Engagement.
- Availability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or outside normal business hours for events and meetings.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and move basic office equipment.
- Ability to work in an environment with periodic interruptions.
- Ability to spend extended periods standing or outdoors during event coverage.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily office-based within the Communications Department. Some exposure to noise due to proximity to print shop equipment. Occasional travel and evening/weekend work required for meetings, events, and community activities.
COMMENTS
Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentiality is a must.
