Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) was formed in 1974 with the mission of providing public transit services to the 59 communities and 1.2 million residents of Cuyahoga County. As the largest public transit agency in the State of Ohio, GCRTAs service options include bus, BRT, trolley, paratransit and three rail lines. Position Summary
Provides radio communication and operational support for bus service by assisting operators with routing, service disruptions, accidents, mechanical issues, and emergencies while coordinating responses with supervisors, maintenance, Transit Police, and emergency services. Maintains accurate operational records and reports in OnRoute, including incident reports, tow logs, and Supervisor Assessment Reports, to ensure complete and timely recordkeeping. Supports service continuity by coordinating coach replacements, reroutes, and operator notifications, responding to inquiries from the public, agencies, and internal stakeholders. Performs end-of-day scheduling and reporting functions.
Detailed Description
Scope
Provides radio communications support for bus operations by assisting operators with routing, service disruptions, accidents, mechanical issues, and emergencies. Coordinates responses with supervisors, maintenance personnel, Transit Police, and emergency services while documenting incidents and supporting service continuity.
Maintains operational records and reports, including documenting all radio, phone, and other communications in the OnRoute system with complete incident details such as time, location, vehicle information, personnel involved, delays, and service restoration. Maintain tow logs for buses removed from service for repairs and prepare Supervisor Assessment Reports (SARs) to document incidents when supervisory personnel are unavailable to respond.
Provides administrative and communications support by responding to calls from the public, government agencies, and internal stakeholders, and relaying operational information as needed. Coordinates with district personnel regarding coach replacements, routes, service disruptions, and operator notifications to ensure accurate and timely communication.
Performs end-of-day administrative functions by reviewing and confirming supervisory schedules, documenting assignment changes, preparing daily work lists, and distributing scheduling information to appropriate personnel. Collects, organizes, and distributes operational reports to ensure timely communication and recordkeeping.
Job RequirementsMinimum Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of bus operations experience required; 2+ years as a bus operator is preferred; Cleveland area preferred.
- Certified Road Instructor and/or Positive Impact Program Mentor preferred.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Experience in monitoring schedules and assisting in bus and transportation operations in emergency conditions is required.
- Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage projects, and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Applicants must have experience utilizing various software applications such as MS Office Suite, Outlook, and the Internet.

Physical Demands

Reading, studying, focused listening, auditing, inspecting, proofreading, and evaluating are required. Ability to give, receive, and analyze information and prepare written materials. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data.
