Class Summary
The Evidence Technician is responsible for the receiving and storing evidence in the appropriate storage location, following call current policies and procedures to ensure the proper chain of custody is maintained.
Essential Duties
- Receiving, processing, and storing evidence by following current policies and procedures to ensure that chain of custody is maintained
- Logging, tracking, and completing paperwork for evidence
- Maintaining files and evidence storage
- Entering information into records management system (RMS)
- Verifying and gathering information through GCIC/NCIC and other systems
- Performing clerical functions such as answering phones, preparing files, and using basic computer skills
- Providing customer service
- Reading maps and applying applicable laws, rules and regulations
Public Speaking Duties
- Testifying in court as to the integrity, preservation, transportation and chain of custody of property and evidence.
Other Job Requirements/Information
- Pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- Public safety background check to include motor vehicle & criminal histories, credit check, and fingerprinting.
- May require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Grade
The grade for this position is 97. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED

One year of customer service experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- GCIC/NCIC certification within one year of employment
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
- GCIC/NCIC certification
- Valid driver's license
