DEPARTMENT: Infant and Toddler Center
REPORTS TO: Director of the Infant and Toddler Center
FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Infant & Toddler Center seeks a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Full-Time Infant & Toddler Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in providing a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 6 weeks to 2 years. The ideal candidate demonstrates patience, flexibility, and genuine joy in working with young children. Full-time assistant teachers typically work 30–40 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities.
- Provide nurturing care, including feeding, diapering, supervision, and maintaining a clean and safe classroom.
- Support a positive, inclusive, and play-based classroom culture.
- Communicate professionally with families and colleagues.
- Follow all safety, health, and licensing requirements.
- Assist with smooth, supportive transitions between daily routines.
- Experience with infants and toddlers strongly is required.
- Kind, patient disposition and genuine enjoyment of young children.
- Knowledge of child development principles, early childhood education theories, and best practices. Knowledge of Conscious Discipline is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.
- CPR/First Aid or willingness to obtain.
- Satisfy background check and state licensing requirements
- A minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or relevant coursework in early childhood; preferred Associate’s degree (preferably in Early Childhood); and/or a minimum of two years experience working with infants and toddlers.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with parents and/or employees of an organization.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
