Purpose:
The CDL Truck Driver transports equipment safely and efficiently between dealership locations and customer sites. This position plays an important role in supporting service and sales operations by ensuring equipment is delivered on time and in good condition. The driver is responsible for operating commercial vehicles safely, completing required inspections and documentation, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and providing professional customer service during deliveries and pickups.
Responsibilities:
- Transports equipment to/from customers and/or between dealership locations
- Supports the sales department with equipment delivery as needed
- Maintains records of pickup and deliveries and obtains necessary signatures and receipts
- Maintains all required certifications in line with DOT, OSHA and company policy
- Accounts for all time and for all distance traveled in performing assigned duties
- Complete asset safety and maintenance checks prior to operation
- Must communicate maintenance and repair needs of the assigned trucks and keep equipment in good condition
- May instruct customers on basic equipment operating procedures as required
- Must maintain a clean and neat personal appearance
- Must keep an organized and clean vehicle
- Other duties as assigned
Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Minimum of one year of experience operating a semi-trailer truck or similar commercial vehicle preferred.
- Must meet all applicable DOT qualification requirements for operating commercial motor vehicles.
- Safe driving record.
- Ability to safely load, secure, transport, and unload equipment.
- Ability to complete required inspections, documentation, and delivery records accurately.
- Good verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with dispatchers, transportation coordinators, customers, and dealership personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to follow written instructions, schedules, and established procedures.
- Dependable, organized, and accountable for assigned equipment and deliveries.
- Basic mechanical awareness to recognize and report vehicle or trailer maintenance concern
- Sit for extended periods while operating commercial vehicles.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to approximately 75 pounds.
- Climb on and off trucks, trailers, and equipment, including climbing heights of approximately 6 to 13 feet.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and secure equipment during loading and unloading.
- Use hands and fingers to operate vehicle controls and secure cargo.
- Maintain the visual acuity and physical ability required to safely operate commercial motor vehicles.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, noise, vibration, and moving vehicles and equipment.
- May work around heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and other machinery.
- Requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy and applicable safety regulations.
- Frequent travel to customer locations, dealership facilities, and manufacturer locations to transport equipment.
