Position Summary

Under general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, provides initial patient intake and assists with direct patient care as assigned. Performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

Position Accountabilities:

• Delivers direct patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Provider.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for continuous improvement.
• Practices quality service as evidenced through QI results and patient satisfaction.
• Maintains positive behavior, approach, attitude and commitment to interpersonal service. Serves as a role model for the organization’s 5-Star Customer Service initiative following established Behavior Based Standards. Consistently promotes teamwork and a collaborative culture.
• Responsible for abiding by and adhering to all HDH Corporate Compliance Program initiative and standards.
• Responsible for compliance with HDH safety standards, policies and procedures.
• Prepares examination room before and after each patient examination.
• Greet and escort patients to examination rooms, preparing patients for examinations.
• Performs direct and indirect patient care activities such as vital signs, height and weight measurement, and routine lab work as required.
• Obtain and review for completeness the patient’s history, medication lists and chief complaint.
• Assist Provider with physical exams, PAP tests, bone marrow procedures and other routine specialized procedures.
• Performs injections and Accu checks per Provider order and regulatory guidelines.
• Participates in ordering, restocking and maintaining inventory.
• Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities, monitor scans and pre-cert labs, and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
• Answers phone calls, provides needed information, and takes messages as appropriate.
• Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Must be a graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program or have related experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting for primary care. Phlebotomy skills preferred or ability to complete. Current CPR certification or ability to complete. Clinical setting skills in addition to office medical procedures and managed care. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate high ethical standards. Able to maintain self-control and function under pressure during emergency situations.
