About the Emergency Department

We are a growing 20-bed Emergency Department that sees about 120 patients per day. We have a max patient ratio of 4:1 but we strive to stay at 3:1 for patient safety and employee satisfaction. We care for all patients from neonates to geriatrics from all walks of life. We are stroke-certified, a designated teaching hospital, and a cardiac center with STEMI capability. Additionally, we are part of the Oregon Health Sciences University Health System.
Our Emergency Department staff are a talented, engaged, and experienced team of nurses, techs, providers, and ancillary team with consistently high employee satisfaction scores. The culture at Hillsboro Medical Center is what sets us apart with many employees saying the reason they stay here is because of the people and quality of life. We also pride ourselves on our provider and nursing staff relationship, and work closely together for a strong team dynamic.
We have great leaders who truly care. It is common to see our department leaders spending their time supporting the team at the bedside to understand the workflows of the employees they support.
Position Overview
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Oregon
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
- ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire
- PALS or ENPC required within 90 days of hire
- Minimum of one year of Emergency Department nursing experience or senior practicum in Emergency Services may be required for this position to ensure appropriate experience mix within the department
- Minimum of one year of Emergency Department nursing experience required for candidates who may be utilized in a Charge Nurse capacity.
- Performs and documents patient assessments and intervention in a timely, accurate, and concise manner, utilizing hospital and departmental charting formats.
- Administers medications via all routes safely and accurately according to procedure.
- Prioritizes patient care based on ESI level to optimize department flow.
- Accurately completes consents for treatments and transfers.
- Communicates patient needs and changes in condition to physician, team members and/or family as necessary.
