The Volunteer Coordinator assists in building meaningful volunteer involvement while strengthening the organization’s presence in the community and philanthropic support. This role works in cooperation with many departments throughout the organization to ensure volunteer efforts align with organizational goals and community needs.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Support all aspects of the volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding/orientation, training, placement, recognition, and retention.
• Assist in coordinating volunteer activities and events that advance community engagement and organizational visibility.
• Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, including hours, placements, and other required documentation.
• Serve as a point of contact for volunteers, assisting with questions, scheduling, and logistical support.
• Assure compliance with the ratio of 5% volunteer hours to paid staff client care hours.
• Participate in and assist in the development of educational training programs for volunteers.
• Assist with the Speakers Bureau and recruitment and training of volunteers as Houston Hospice ambassadors.
• Participate in community and area activities promoting hospice care and hospice program.
• Understand the sensitivity of confidential information and ability to handle information properly

• Post high school education.
• Minimum two-year work or volunteer experience, in health care or social services/hospice preferred.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
• Comfortable engaging with a diverse group of volunteers, donors, and community partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with volunteer management software is a plus.
