HSPPR is contracted to run the Pueblo Shelter and Animal Law Enforcement. We also operate a thriving Wellness Clinic providing affordable vaccines and spay/neuter services to the public. About the job:
As Lead Veterinarian in Pueblo, your day begins by performing HQHV spay/neuter surgeries for shelter, TNR, and community animals. From there, brace for the thrilling unpredictability of shelter medicine! Whether you are leading rounds, designing life-saving treatment plans, performing advanced procedures (like amputations and foreign body removals), or responding to emergency hoarding intakes, every single day offers a fresh, rewarding challenge.

Compensation and Schedule:
- Based primarily at the Pueblo shelter campus, with at least three weekly shifts at the Pueblo campus. Additional shift(s) will rotate through Wellness clinics and the Colorado Springs shelter campus.
- Four ten-hour shifts
- Regular schedule will include at least one weekend shift
- Schedule may be subject to change based on organizational needs.
- Salary: $125,000 - $140,000, dependent on experience.
Education/Experience Necessary
- Graduated from an accredited veterinary medical college – DVM or equivalent.
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Colorado.
- Three plus years of experience in a high volume spay/neuter clinic or shelter setting.
- Three plus years of experience practicing veterinary medicine in an animal shelter, including surgical procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated aptitude in clinical medicine and surgery.
- Experience in animal welfare and shelter operations.
- Ability to work and make decisions independently.
- Demonstrated success in working with a diverse team of professionals, skilled in managing varied relationships and successful at facilitating collaboration and cooperation.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
