- This position will report to our New Albany, IN location.
HWC is seeking a Planner to assist Indiana and Kentucky communities in preparing and implementing long-range community and economic development strategies. As a key member of our New Albany planning team, we are looking for an individual who will be responsible for:
- Facilitating active community participation in planning work.
- Communicating planning policies to the public.
- Preparing action plans that will lead to results.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Complete background research, analysis, and GIS mapping to support project planning.
- Facilitate public participation activities to identify issues, opportunities, and priorities.
- Collaborate to recommend strategies to address needs and promote economic and community development.
- Travel to and participate in public workshops and steering committee meetings across Indiana and Kentucky, including evening meetings.
- Prepare interim and final planning documents including writing, mapping, and graphic design.
- Interact effectively with others including community leaders, residents, stakeholders, elected officials, consulting firms partnering with HWC, state agencies, and HWC staff.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban design, public policy, landscape architecture or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience in long range planning.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with ArcGIS.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to think critically, manage time and solve problems.
- Strong data analysis and organizational skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Complete competence working well independently and on a team.
- Applicants must possess high ethical standards, have a strong sense of commitment to self-development, teamwork, and a desire to work in a deadline-driven team environment.
