The Associate Medical Director, Maternal and Pediatric Health leads the clinicians supporting maternal and pediatric populations and provides clinical and operational leadership for the maternal and pediatric complex care programs. Leading the speciality navigation & care and case management program, this individual leads a team supporting maternal and pediatric programs accessible to over a million members. This physician leader serves as the clinical authority across the maternal and pediatric health portfolio, providing subject matter expertise, program oversight, and guidance on complex clinical issues. They are responsible for ensuring that clinicians meet standards of clinical quality, achieve performance expectations, and deliver measurable clinical impact. They are also accountable for program design, workflow maintenance, and continuous improvement. This leader will shape population health strategy for maternal and pediatric populations by identifying opportunities to improve outcomes, member experience, and program performance at scale.
Reporting to the Medical Director for Care and Case Management, this individual serves as a clinical subject matter expert and will collaborate closely with other clinicians at IH to ensure clinical expertise is represented in all domains. They will bridge strategy and execution, translate organizational priorities into clinical operations, and ensure that their team contributes to clinical outcomes, client commitments, and third-party oversight activities, including RFPs and audits. They will also partner across teams to inform population health priorities, support scalable care models, and ensure maternal and pediatric programs align with Included Health’s broader population health strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Operational Leadership:
Provide clinical and program oversight of maternity, newborn, NICU, and pediatric clinicians
Serve as the clinical escalation point, coordinating with clinical leadership and other SMEs as needed for clinical resolution.
Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical standards, evidence-based care pathways, and educational materials across maternal and pediatric health programs.
Directly supervise and/or provide clinical oversight to APPs.
Partner with Product and Engineering to develop clinical requirements, and inform the clinical tooling and product features that will enable the teams to provide high-quality, scalable support.
Use clinical insight, performance data, and population-level trends to identify care gaps, stratify opportunities for intervention, and inform program improvement priorities across maternal and pediatric populations.
Contribute to the design and evolution of maternal and pediatric programs to improve quality, outcomes, and scalability across the population health portfolio.
People Management:
Manage clinicians against clear performance expectations, including productivity, documentation, clinical quality, and safety standards.
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and feedback as needed.
Establish clear clinical and operational expectations for the team, including team huddles, and continuing education.
Use data, dashboards, and leading indicators to monitor performance, and identify operational gaps or clinical trends.
Coach and develop the team of clinicians, building clinical competency and operational excellence.
Support career pathways and advancement.
Collaborate with Practice Ops and Credentialing teams to support new hire onboarding, training, credentialing, and licensing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with other clinical leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure coordination across service lines for members with multi-specialty needs.
Represent the maternal and pediatric health perspective in cross-functional initiatives, pilots, and strategic planning efforts related to complex care management.
Partner with clinical, operational, analytics, and product stakeholders to inform population health initiatives, performance improvement efforts, and scalable models of care for maternal and pediatric populations.
Clinical Scope & Licensure:
The AMD is a board-certified family medicine physician with experience caring for prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric patients in a generalist setting.
This individual serves as the clinical authority for maternal and pediatric care/case management programs and provides oversight of clinical standards, escalations, and care pathways across both domains.
They bring a population health lens to program leadership, helping ensure that clinical strategy, care models, and operational workflows are designed to improve outcomes across maternal and pediatric populations.
Qualifications:
Required:
Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
Clinical Experience: Board certified in family medicine, med-peds, or a related speciality.
Minimum of 5 years post-residency clinical experience caring for prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric patients in a generalist setting, with the ability to apply that clinical lens to population health leadership.
Licensure: Active medical license in good standing in state of residence. Willingness to become licensed in additional states as needed.
Operations and Performance: Experience leading clinicians in a performance-driven environment, including use of quality, productivity, and operational metrics to drive accountability and improvement.
Preferred:
Digital Health: Experience working in digital health or virtual care delivery models.
Clinical AI: Comfort integrating clinical AI tools into day-to-day workflows and direct care delivery.
Population Health: Knowledge of the medical, behavioral, and social factors that drive poor outcomes and avoidable cost across complex populations.
Location: Lives in physician compact-eligible state.
