JOB SUMMARY:
Under general administrative supervision, this position serves as an essential member of the Student Life team at Indian River State College. The role provides comprehensive case management, early intervention, and coordinated care for students experiencing personal, emotional, behavioral, academic, or wellness-related concerns. Promotes student well-being, persistence, and success through individualized support, cross-campus collaboration, and proactive outreach. The position ensures timely, policy-informed responses to student needs and maintains accurate, confidential documentation to support holistic student care.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage Caseload
- Manage a comprehensive caseload of students presenting wellness, personal, and behavioral concerns at Indian River State College. Conduct intake meetings, follow-up meetings, coordinate resources, and ongoing check-ins to evaluate student needs and progress. Develop individualized support plans that promote coping skills, behavioral functioning, community connection, and overall well-being. Assist students experiencing housing instability, food insecurity, financial hardship, transportation challenges, family concerns, health issues, and mental health concerns. Coordinate referrals to institutional and community resources, including counseling, health services, disability services, academic support, financial wellness, and basic needs assistance. Maintain detailed, confidential case records in Maxient or other approved systems in compliance with FERPA, institutional policy, and professional standards. Monitor students of concern and collaborate with the Behavioral Assessment Response Team (BART) to ensure appropriate interventions and risk mitigation strategies. Interpret and apply relevant college policies and procedures to support equitable and consistent case resolution. 45%
Student Support, Prevention, Education:
- Provide supportive guidance to students regarding help-seeking behaviors, self-advocacy, stress management, conflict resolution, and decision-making. Partner with Student Life, Counseling, Campus Safety, Academic Affairs, Residence Life, and community agencies to promote proactive wellness initiatives. Develop and deliver appropriate training and workshops for students, staff, and faculty related to student well-being, mental health awareness, basic needs resources, bystander intervention, and campus support processes. Represent Student Life at orientations, tabling events, resource fairs, and campus-wide wellness programming. Contribute to institutional strategies that promote a culture of care, early identification of concerns, and reduction of barriers to student success. 30%
Administrative Duties
- : Contribute to departmental assessment initiatives, including data analysis, reporting, and identification of trends related to student behavior. Recommend updates to case management procedures, referral pathways, and wellness programming that enhance student support and reduce escalated incidents. Assist with informal conflict resolution through facilitated conversations, problem-solving strategies, and supportive interventions. Prepare documentation, summaries, and briefings for internal stakeholders as needed. Manage appointment scheduling, communication workflows, follow-up tasks, and general office support related to student wellness operations. 20%

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, higher education, public health, human services, or a related field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree with related experience may be acceptable.
- Master’s Degree in a related field preferred;
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a wellness setting;
- Experience in case management, student affairs, counseling services, crisis response, or a related functional area.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based practice.
- Demonstrated ability to support students with sensitivity, sound judgment, and respect for student identities, lived experiences, and developmental needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to manage sensitive or complex conversations with professionalism.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to students in distress or during emergent situations.
- Competence in technology platforms, case management databases, and Microsoft Office applications; experience generating reports and analyzing relevant data.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively with all student populations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage sensitive conversations with professionalism.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with diverse groups of institutional constituents.
- Ability to manage and coordinate assignments to meet deadlines.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Skills in using logic and reasoning to problem solve.
- Experience working with technology applications and databases, creating reports that reflect relevant data.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.

- Ability to be accurate, pay attention to details, be people oriented, multi-task, work independently as well as with others, and be self-motivated.
- Familiarity with Title IX, FERPA, Cleary Act requirements, and Florida state higher education regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
