The Vice President, Nursing serves as the Nurse Executive for Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC), holding ultimate accountability for the professional practice of nursing throughout the organization, the quality and safety of patient care, and the strategic direction of nursing services across the organization. Ensures that patient safety is the highest priority for the medical center. This role establishes the vision for nursing excellence, ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance, and leads the development of evidence‑based nursing practice, workforce strategies, and interdisciplinary care models. Participates in organizational governance, strategic planning, and performance improvement.
Primary Responsibilities:
Professional Nursing Leadership:
- Identifies and articulates the vision and strategic direction for the discipline of Nursing and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them.
- Provides executive leadership for assigned departments.
- Oversight of nursing leadership, staffing, competency, and professional practice.
- Assures collaboration among clinical and support departments to meet patient care needs.
- Responsible for the development/approval of patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patients’ nursing care needs or patient populations receiving nursing are assessed, evaluate and met.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in assessing and planning for patient care needs, communication process towards goals, and providing for patients’ continuing care needs.
Quality:
- Implements standards that will ensure safe, quality and effective nursing care to patients in accordance with established nursing, medical, legal and accrediting agency standards.
- Accountable for ensuring patient safety performance and adherence to safe work practices including hand hygiene in areas of responsibility.
- Works collaboratively with QI&R and Risk Management to select, collect, data and information for tracking and improving clinical performance, patient safety, and patient care outcomes.
- Maintains standards in accordance with regulatory licensing and credentialing agencies (Center for Medicare and Medicaid, Pennsylvania Department of Health).
- Serve on Quality Council, Clinical Quality Committee, and Medical Staff Quality Committee.
- Serve as administrative champion and/or member of performance improvement teams as appropriate.
Financial Management:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of budgets for assigned departments.
- Retains fiscal responsibility for assigned departments.
- Participates in the senior leadership team in determination of allocation of funds for patient care needs.
- Collaborates with medical and hospital staff in implementing initiatives for documentation compliance programs to ensure compliance.
- Develops staffing plans which assure cost effective utilization of resources to meet patient care needs based on clinical assessment, utilizing data from performance improvement activities, patient satisfaction information and financial data.

- Effectively create a focus on high performance and results through communication, role modeling and decision making.
- Actively participates in ongoing professional development and learning.
- Supports the identification and development of potential successors to ensure future leadership.
- Promotes an environment that results in legal and ethical behavior.
- Actively participates and supports IRMC’s key communities through volunteer service and leadership.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
- Participates with members of the governing board, medical staff, administrative team, hospital management and clinical groups in decision-making structures and process.
- Established standards and expectations for creating exceptional experiences for patients.
- Provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote recruitment, retention, and recognition of excellence in nursing.
- Collaborates with medical staff to ensure integration of care delivery, satisfaction with services and clinical competence.
- Participate or chair medical center committees or teams as assigned
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Five to seven years of clinical experience.
- Five years of senior nursing leadership experience.
- Masters Degree.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform in a rapidly changing and stressful work environment.
- Demonstrated ability for leadership, the use of the nursing process and emotional maturity.
- Timely and dependable follow-up problem resolution.
