Intact’s Global Specialty Lines business spans across more than 20 verticals in four distinct markets: U.S., Canada, UK and Europe. The following opportunity is for our U.S. team.

The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Software Developer to join our Corporate IT team based in our Canton, MA; Boston, MA; Farmington, CT or Raleigh, NC offices on a hybrid schedule. This position is expected to help lead, by example, their self-managed agile team through the full systems life cycle when developing the company’s technical solutions using the agile methodology. They are responsible for driving complex application design, implementation and support of application software while championing the agile process. The Senior Software Developer ensures that the development and rollout of technical solutions are performed in a timely manner. This role is viewed as a technical lead within an agile team, setting standards to reduce complexity, writing technical specs and identifying risks
as the project progresses. The Senior Software Developer will be considered a subject matter expert within at least one of the company’s applications and will have the ability to assist in the creation of new products within the framework of the current applications. This role will have awareness of the cross organizational impact of system changes. Some of the Senior Software Developer responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Works closely with stake holders, product owners, and agile team members to conduct analysis, understand and capture business requirements used to create user stories on the teams backlog. The stories help drive the design and development of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and comply with the organization’s architectural standards.
• Designs, develops and maintains high-quality software applications. Actively contributes to coding and delivery, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and timely development of features and enhancements.
• Upholds best practices for security and performance, ensuring that deliverables meet both business and technical requirements.
• Develops and presents recommendations towards the design and development of IT solutions across broad disciplines and functional areas.
• Demonstrates leadership skills as the team works through the full system development life cycle and may be responsible for providing accurate estimates, gathering business requirements, designing, coding, testing, implementing and supporting application software that is delivered in a timely manner.
• Participates in making recommendations towards the component and data architecture design, performance monitoring, product evaluation and buy vs. build recommendations.
• Collaborates effectively with others in a variety of work settings. This involves helping to educate others within their area of expertise, understanding the issues/concerns of other areas, communicating the project status and working together to solve problems across the IT organization.
• Utilizes a broad spectrum of technology, hardware, applications, communications, development and support tools to deliver the most effective solution. Responsible for team delivery of quality solutions.
• Effectively communicates the project status for areas of responsibility to management.

The expertise you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Degree from a Technical school or equivalent work experience.
• On the job training is also recognized.
• 5-7 years of related experience.
• Significant development experience in the languages and technologies used by the company.
• An intermediate level understanding of the Insurance business.
• Programming experience in languages used by the company.
• Experience in and a solid understanding of design, development, and quality assurance and integration methodologies.
• Work experience in Property Casualty or Specialty Insurance a plus.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $101,000 - $143,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $128,000 - $149,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
