Location: Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, IA
Summary: The purpose of this position is to conduct preventive maintenance and repairs of plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling systems for the main campus.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducts preventive maintenance program on all heating and cooling equipment for MCC Campus (including Educational Training Center and Grinnell Center) or the ECC Campus (including the south Hamilton campus)
- Investigate all reports of trouble or problems relating to the heating and cooling systems, utilities, buildings, and alarm systems.
- Installs replacement parts, and equipment for Heating and Cooling, Electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Assist Campus Supervisor of Plant Services with the supervision and oversight of the installation and/ or building of new structures, new wiring systems, and equipment.
- Reviews work performed by other contractors for IVCCD such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, and mechanical.
- Inspects Boilers and water heaters annually for MCC Campus (including Educational Training Center and Grinnell Center) or the ECC Campus (including the south Hamilton campus).
- Prepares Boilers for annual insurance inspection. Meet with and help inspector with each piece of equipment required.
- Reviews chemical levels for water source heat pumps, cooling towers, heating loops, (boilers) and cooling loops.
- Request, receive, and prepare bids for the supervisor. Perform snow and ice removal. Conduct ground maintenance. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Completion of High School Diploma or GED/HSED. Diploma or AAS in related field and/or specialized training preferred. Five or more years of related work experience preferred.
Certifications and Licenses: Valid State Driver’s License required; State Mechanical, Plumber, Boiler, and Hydronic license/certifications required; First Aid and CPR certifications required.
Abilities: Knowledge of electrical laws, regulations, and required licenses. Knowledge of plumbing and piping regulations. Skills in fabrication and erection of sheet metal products. Knowledge and skills in boiler operations and maintenance. Knowledge on mechanical equipment, operations and repairs involving building maintenance and HVAC trades. Knowledge and skills involving Hydronic heating. Knowledge in geothermal operation, heating and cooling. Working knowledge of computer software and operations involving Building Automation Controls. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in completing tasks and meeting deadlines. Ability to handle highly confidential matters and materials with discretion. Ability to work in an environment of shifting priorities; frequent interruptions, hectic pace; and interaction with students and staff and/ or the public. Ability to exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, and problem solving techniques. Ability to make educational advancements in the trade.
Base Wage: $20.35-$27.13 per hour - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
