As a member of our team, you will build an environment that cultivates deep collaboration between the sponsor community, end users, and APL staff in order to best support the overall mission.
As an Assistant Program Manager…
- Your primary responsibility will be to serve as a partner for the Program Manager to manage the cost, schedule, and quality of APL efforts within the program portfolio.
- You will work with line management to form high-functioning cross-functional teams of technical, programmatic, and administrative experts to execute incoming tasks.
- You will represent APL as a trusted mission partner for the government’s CBRNE and CWMD communities and cultivate high-integrity teams of APL’s world-class experts to amplify and scale this trusted role.
- You will serve as a leader contributing to the strategy and future vision of APL's C-CBRNE Threats program area.
- You will form valued partnerships with other institutions, laboratories, and industry to understand the full range of capabilities available to sponsors.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…
- Possess a Master’s degree or higher
- Have 10+ years of experience working in technical, project, and program leadership positions within the chemical biological defense community.
- Are highly skilled in developing collaboration between technical scientists, engineers end users, and sponsors.
- Have experience communicating with all levels of staff and sponsors.
- Hold a Top Secret clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
- Have a depth of knowledge of the CWMD mission space and the operational groups that perform these missions
- Have consistently proven an ability to interact with Senior Government officials within the CBRNE Defense and CWMD enterprise.
- Have demonstrated success performing project and program management functions.
- Possess a PhD

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
