What You'll Do
The UPF Technical Support Specialist reports to the Work Control Manger in UPF Asset Management and will strategically manage, coordinate, and oversee critical maintenance activities, ensuring optimal scheduling, efficient resource allocation, and continuous process improvement. This senior-level role is pivotal in orchestrating, aligning, and leading the smooth coordination of various organizations required to accomplish complex work scopes.
Maintenance Leadership & Execution Oversight:
- Lead the overall coordination, implementation, status reporting, and rapid escalation/resolution of high-priority maintenance and scheduled work activities.
- Serve as the primary interface with support groups, customers, and critical resources to align maintenance activities for Production, Projects, BOP, Security, and Emergency services, strategically addressing equipment/system upgrades, critical breakdowns, and master work week schedules.
- Interface directly with Senior Leadership to facilitate the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of maintenance activities, with the ultimate objective of maximizing the operational availability of production assets, systems, and facilities.
- Key contributor in establishing operational priorities based on strategic guidance from System Health, Production, Projects, and BOP managers.
- Analyze and report execution barriers to management, spearheading the development and implementation of systemic resolutions to overcome scheduling and operational bottlenecks.
- Direct field coordination and manage escalated issues to ensure the seamless execution of maintenance activities and major projects, providing strong technical leadership throughout the process. Accountable for the authorization and finalization of daily work execution schedules, including establishing critical milestones with all participating organizations, and providing authoritative resolution to schedule disruptions.
Technical Advisory & Work Package Authority:
- Serve as the principal technical resource and mentor for maintenance planners, providing high-level guidance on complex planning elements.
- Serve as the approving authority for technical work packages, ensuring compliance, safety, and operational feasibility.
- Architect and oversee systems to track work package statuses and monitor walkdown progression to guarantee absolute readiness for execution. Authorize the initiation and closure of complex work orders, and strategically manage the procurement of long-lead and critical materials for corrective and Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities
Specialized Permit &Cross-Functional Facilitation:
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with key departments—including Critical Safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Radiological Control (RadCon), and Facility Safety—to streamline the permit process for complex PMs.
- Own and manage the special permit process, absorbing administrative and regulatory hurdles to enable maintenance planners to focus exclusively on technical PM work step development. Oversee and optimize the coordination of Engineering Testing & Inspection (ET&I) activities.
Process Management & Strategic Scheduling:
- Govern the CCC process, ensuring continuous updates, quality control, and compliance of CCC checklists.
- Own the tracking and strategic alignment of the L3/L5 Project Activity Schedule.
- Forecast, coordinate, and facilitate advanced craft training schedules to align workforce capabilities with upcoming technical work demands.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- OR PhD.
- Twelve (12) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this position.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A: (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements
- Basic Microsoft Office package, including Excel.
- Requires management skills to include technical oversight, effective planning and organizing, communication, interpersonal, fiscal responsibility, and schedule compliance.
- Work experience with DOE and/or NNSA Orders and practices.
- Preferred degrees are Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical or Industrial), Engineering Technology or other technical related degrees.
- Preferred experience includes competence with: Industrial equipment maintenance, repair and rebuild.
