About Home Study and Post Release Services
KyUMH works in collaboration with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to support children who are placed with caregivers across the state of Kentucky and potentially contiguous states. The goals of the Home-Study Post Release Services Program (HS/PRS) are to:
- Assess the safety and suitability of a sponsor before an unaccompanied child is released into a sponsor’s care (Home Study).
- Provide case management support to ensure the continued safety and stability of children in sponsor’s homes and linking children to resources in the community (Post Release Services).
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or relevant behavioral science in which direct clinical experience is a program requirement OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
- May be licensed or eligible for licensure (i.e., CSW/LCSW, LPCA/LPCC, AMFT/LMFT)
- Highly fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written)
- Knowledge of local community social services
- Specialized experience working with immigrant populations
- Knowledge of family preservation, kinship care and child welfare

- Deliver comprehensive mental health services, including psychoeducational support for recently migrated youth.
- Collaborate with youth, families, and case management team to develop short-term goals and treatment plans.
- Conduct weekly in-home visits for at least 30 days and maintain monthly contact for a minimum of 6 months.
- Provide in-person support during stressful or traumatic experiences (e.g., medical appointments, hospital visits).
- Document all client contacts, interventions, and assessments in compliance with KYUMH and ORR standards.
- Develop culturally competent clinical interventions to address trauma and assist youth in adjusting to life in the U.S.
- Conduct screenings for mental health, developmental needs, trauma history, and child trafficking; provide referrals as needed.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation.
- Maintain effective working relationships with families, colleagues, and community agencies.
- Participate in case review meetings and present accurate client summaries.
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards in agency, state, and federal databases.
- Demonstrate cultural humility and trauma-informed practices.
- Requires frequent travel; occasional out-of-area and overnight travel, including airline travel
