The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in Workday configuration coupled with a strong understanding of California public sector labor policies, including CalHR standards and the California State Controller’s Office (SCO) payroll processes.
Responsibilities:
Workday System Configuration & Design
- Module Ownership: Configure, test, and maintain Workday Time Tracking and Absence Management modules to support complex public sector business requirements.
- Rules & Calculations: Build and update complex time entry templates, time calculation rules, accrual plans, eligibility rules, and period schedules.
- Leave Management: Design and maintain specialized leave types (e.g., FMLA, CFRA, Industrial Disability Leave, and military leave) tailored to California public sector guidelines.
- Policy Translation: Interpret and translate complex Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), bargaining unit agreements, and CalHR policies into precise Workday system logic.
- SCO Alignment: Collaborate with integration and payroll teams to align Workday time and absence outputs with California State Controller's Office (SCO) procedures, timelines, and reporting requirements.
- FLSA Compliance: Ensure time tracking configurations accurately capture and calculate overtime rules, shift differentials, and premium pays in compliance with federal FLSA and California state regulations.
- Testing Cycles: Lead system testing, integration testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for all time and absence configuration changes, specifically focusing on complex retro-calculations.
- Release Management: Support quarterly Workday updates by performing robust regression testing on existing configurations, custom reports, and downstream payroll interfaces.
- Production Support: Provide high-tier functional troubleshooting for complex timecard and absence balance discrepancies, resolving issues within established SLA windows.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience of hands-on configuration experience in Workday Time Tracking and Absence Management modules
- College Degree preferred
- Workday Certified in Workday Time Tracking and/or Workday Absence Management
- Proven experience configuring Workday in complex environments with multiple union agreements, rotating shifts, and varied eligibility profiles.
- Prior experience supporting California state agencies, counties, municipalities, or higher education institutions is highly preferred
- Functional understanding of CalHR policies, procedures, and leave administration, as well as California State Controller's Office (SCO) payroll processes is preferred
- Proficiency in building Workday Custom Reports, Calculated Fields, and utilizing EIBs for bulk data updates.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to diagnose and resolve technical discrepancies between time tracking inputs and downstream payroll outputs.
- Ability to travel to Sacramento periodically throughout the duration of the assignment
